Aiphone JPS-4AEDF - 7" Touchscreen Flush Video Intercom Set (JP-DVF, JP-4MED, PS-2420UL)

Everything needed for a one door, one master station system ships in the JPS-4AEDF set: the JP-DVF flush mount video door station, the JP-4MED 7 inch touchscreen master station, and the PS-2420UL power supply. You still buy the wire and the back boxes separately. Aiphone specifies #871802 two conductor, mid cap, solid, non shielded cable for both the door station run and the power supply run.

Distance depends on gauge. From the door station to the master station you get 165 feet on 22AWG and 330 feet on 18AWG. The power supply to master station run is much shorter: 16 feet on 22AWG, 33 feet on 18AWG. That second number is the one that catches people out, so the PS-2420UL has to live close to the JP-4MED, not back in the electrical room, unless you pull 18AWG and stay under 33 feet.

Yes. The JP Series supports up to 8 inside stations for internal communication and up to 4 door stations. The JPS-4AEDF set covers one door and one master, so a property manager can start at a single entrance and expand to a second entry, a service door, and additional inside stations without replacing the head end.

Door release is one of the functions on the 7 inch touchscreen, along with system navigation and viewing the visitor. Note that the strike or maglock and its power are not part of the JPS-4AEDF set, which includes the JP-DVF, JP-4MED and PS-2420UL only. Plan the locking hardware as a separate line on the order.

Flush. The JPS-4AEDF ships with the JP-DVF, which is the flush mount version of the JP Series video door station, so it sets into the wall or a recessed back box rather than sitting proud of the surface. If the entry is masonry or a wall you cannot cut into, a flush station is the wrong choice and you want the surface mount door station instead.

The door station uses a 1/4 inch CMOS camera with an approximately 100 by 170 degree wide viewing angle, plus digital pan, tilt and zoom from the master station. That means you frame the shot electronically at the 7 inch touchscreen rather than physically re-aiming the camera, which matters on a flush mounted station you cannot easily adjust once it is set in the wall.

Both ways work. The JP-4MED does open voice hands free with auto voice actuation, and it also has a handset with simultaneous communication for a private or noisy conversation. Front desks and leasing offices generally run hands free; handset mode is what you want in a lobby where the conversation should not carry.

Picture memory records images to an SD or SDHC card in the master station. It captures stills, not continuous video, so it answers who rang the bell and when, but it is not a substitute for a camera system if you need continuous recorded coverage of the entrance.

Commercial. Aiphone classes the JPS-4AEDF as a commercial product, and its capacity reflects that: 4 door stations and 8 inside stations, which suits an office suite, a clinic, a school entrance vestibule or a small multi-family building rather than a single family home.
