The KB-DAR is a video door station for use with the KB-3MRD Video System. Up to 3 KB-DAR's can be connected to master station.

The KB-DAR-M allows any standard motion detector or activation device with a normally open contact to be interfaced with the KB-3MRD Video System. When the motion detector is tripped, the camera will turn on and a chime will be heard at the inside monitor station(s), indicating that there is some activity near the door station location.

1) What master station does the Aiphone KB-DAR video door station work with?
The KB-DAR is built for the Aiphone KB-3MRD video system and only works as part of that system. It is not a standalone intercom, so you need the KB-3MRD master station on the inside to answer calls and view the camera.

Yes, up to three KB-DAR door stations can be connected to one KB-3MRD master station. That covers a front entrance, a side or service door, and a gate or rear door off a single inside monitor.
3) What is the difference between the KB-DAR and the KB-DAR-M?
Two versions are offered: the standard KB-DAR, and the KB-DAR-M, which adds remote activation contacts. The -M lets any standard motion detector or activation device with a normally open contact trigger the station, so when the detector trips the camera turns on and a chime sounds at the inside monitor. If you want motion-triggered viewing at the door, order the M version; if you only need call-button operation, the standard unit is the one.
4) How far can the KB-DAR door station be run from the master station, and what wire do I use?
Run it with 2-conductor, low capacitance, non-shielded cable (Aiphone #871802). Distance from door station to master is 330 feet on 22AWG and 650 feet on 18AWG, so step up to 18AWG for the longer pulls across a building or out to a gate.
5) Can the Aiphone KB-DAR mount to an existing 1-gang box?
Yes. The KB-DAR mounts directly to a wall surface or to a 1-gang box, so an existing single-gang backbox at the entry works as the mounting point. No flush back box or special ring is required.
6) Will this Aiphone door station hold up outdoors in cold or hot weather?
The housing is fire resistant ABS plastic and the station is rated from 14 to 140 degrees F (-10 to 60 C). That covers most sheltered exterior entries, but in a climate that drops below 14 F pick a location under cover or out of direct exposure.

The camera tilts, so you can aim it after mounting to suit the door height and approach.
