1) Can I use the TS505D 5/8 x 5 wedge anchor in block, brick, or hollow-core slab?
No. Wedge anchors like the TS505D rely on a clip expanding against solid, sound base material, so they are for poured concrete only. In hollow block, brick, or a hollow-core plank you need a sleeve anchor, a toggle, or an adhesive anchor with a screen tube instead. Driving a 5/8 inch wedge anchor into a hollow cell will spin the clip and give you no holding value.
2) Is the Metallics TS505D anchor suitable for outdoor or damp locations?
It's a zinc plated carbon steel wedge anchor, which is fine for dry interior concrete and incidental moisture, but zinc plating is not a substitute for stainless in continuously wet, coastal, or chemically exposed locations. For a pool deck, exterior pad, or washdown area, specify a stainless wedge anchor in the same 5/8 x 5 size instead.
3) Is the TS505D the same thing as a 5/8 inch concrete sleeve anchor or a drop-in anchor?
No, they install differently. The TS505D is a wedge anchor: the stud is driven into the drilled hole and the nut is torqued to pull the cone into an expansion clip, so the stud stays in the concrete permanently with threads sticking out. A drop-in anchor is set flush and takes a removable bolt, which is what you want when the fixture has to come off repeatedly or sit tight to the slab. A sleeve anchor works in softer or hollow base material. If the drawing calls for a wedge anchor, the TS505D is that type in 5/8 x 5.
4) How many anchors come in a box of Metallics TS505D?
25 anchors per box, supplied as a boxed pack. Each one comes as a complete assembly with the nut and washer on the threaded end, so there is nothing else to order to set them. For a job with several hundred holes, order in multiples of 25.
5) Do I need to order nuts and washers separately for the Metallics TS505D?
No. Wedge anchors ship as a complete unit with the expansion clip, nut, and washer already on the stud, since the nut is what expands the anchor during setting. All you need on site is a 5/8 inch carbide bit, a hammer drill, a blow-out bulb or vacuum, and a wrench.
