Appleton™ PLG Close-Up Plugs and BR Reducers are explosionproof and dust-ignitionproof fittings for use with threaded metal conduit and IMC. The close-up plugs close threaded conduit openings, while the BR reducers create a smaller size opening, and the family spans 1/2" thru 6" in copperfree aluminum, malleable iron, or steel construction. Both are rated for Class I, Division 1 and 2, Groups A, B, C, D; Class II, Division 1 and 2, Groups E, F, G; and Class III hazardous locations, making them a reliable choice for demanding industrial and petrochemical environments.

Yes. 3) Should I order aluminum or malleable iron Appleton conduit plugs for a corrosive plant environment?
Both are offered, and the coating is the deciding factor. 4) Will an Appleton BR reducer work on EMT?
No. These are threaded fittings for threaded metal conduit and IMC, with accurately tapped tapered threads. EMT is unthreaded and uses compression or setscrew connectors, so a BR reducer is the wrong part for it. For hazardous location work you would be running rigid or IMC anyway.
5) Can I use these plugs to close an unused hub on an explosionproof enclosure?

Material splits by size on the PLG plugs. Sizes 1/2 through 1 inch are copperfree aluminum with a natural finish or steel with zinc electroplate. Sizes 1-1/4 through 6 inch are copperfree aluminum natural finish or malleable iron with zinc electroplate. So if you want iron, you are into 1-1/4 inch and up.

Yes. The tapered threads are accurately tapped to make tight, rigid joints and dependable ground continuity, which is what lets the conduit itself remain the equipment grounding path. Each hub also has a smooth rounded integral bushing so conductor insulation is not cut as wires pull through.
