1) Can the Appleton GRHLB50 conduit outlet box be used in a Class I Division 1 area?
Yes. The Appleton GRH Series box is explosionproof and dust-ignitionproof for Class I, Divisions 1 and 2, Groups A, B, C and D; Class II, Divisions 1 and 2, Groups E, F and G; and Class III locations. That covers most gas, vapor and combustible-dust classified areas, including Group A (acetylene) and Group B (hydrogen), which many cast-iron fittings do not cover.
2) Is the GRHLB50 rated for outdoor use in the rain?
It is. The GRH box carries a NEMA 3, 4 rating, backed by a standard O-ring that gives a raintight seal between the internally threaded body and the externally threaded cover. NEMA 4 means it also stands up to hose-directed water, so wash-down areas and exposed outdoor runs are in scope.

5) Is the malleable iron body going to corrode in a wet or chemical plant environment?
The GRH body is malleable iron with an epoxy powder coat finish, applied as part of Appleton's triple-coat process for corrosion resistance in classified environments. Malleable iron also gives high tensile strength and ductility with resistance to impact and shock, which is why it is specified over aluminum where physical abuse is likely. For severe chloride or acid exposure, a stainless or specially coated fitting is the usual call.
6) How do I ground the Appleton GRHLB50 box?
An internal ground screw is standard on every GRH unit, so you can bond an equipment grounding conductor inside the box. The tapered hub threads also maintain ground continuity through the threaded conduit itself. For an inspector who wants a bonded conductor rather than relying on the raceway, the screw is already there.
7) Will the GRHLB50 protect the conductor insulation when I pull wire through it?
Each hub has a smooth, rounded integral bushing that protects conductor insulation during pulls. That is the point of specifying a conduit body at a direction change instead of bending the raceway, along with giving you a maintenance access point later.
