1) What hub sizes does the Appleton GRJS conduit outlet box come in?
Two trade sizes: GRJS75 with 3/4 inch hubs and GRJS100 with 1 inch hubs. Each box has five threaded universal hubs and ships with three close-up plugs, so you plug the openings you aren't using and keep them available for a future tap. Pick the size to match your rigid threaded conduit run; there is no reducer built in.
2) Is the Appleton GRJS box approved for a Class I Division 1 hazardous area?
Yes. The GRJS Series is rated Class I, Division 1 and 2, Groups C and D; Class II, Division 1 and 2, Groups E, F and G; and Class III. It is also raintight, so it works in outdoor classified areas as well as indoor. Note that Groups A and B are not covered by this rating.
3) Can I use a GRJS box with EMT or flexible conduit?
No. It's built for threaded metal conduit (rigid or IMC) for general purpose wiring, and the hub threads are tapered NPT taps. EMT with a set-screw fitting won't make the tight, rigid joint the box depends on for ground continuity and for the explosionproof seal. Use threaded rigid conduit into the hubs.
4) Can I hang a light fixture off a GRJS outlet box?
Yes, when it's used with a hub cover the GRJS box serves as the mounting means for a lighting fixture. The body is internally threaded and the supplied cover is externally threaded, so the cover threads into the box for a tight seal. If you need the fixture stem to land in the cover, order the hub cover version rather than the plain blank cover.
5) Does the GRJS box come with a cover, or do I order that separately?
Covers are furnished with the box. The cover is copper-free aluminum (4/10 of 1 percent maximum copper) with an epoxy powder coat, threading into the internally threaded malleable iron body. Three close-up plugs come with it too for the hubs you don't use.

The GRJS body is malleable iron with a triple-coat finish: zinc electroplate, then chromate, then epoxy powder coat. The aluminum cover is copper-free, which matters in refinery and chemical settings. For severely corrosive duty many specs still call for a nonmetallic or stainless enclosure, so check what the drawing requires.
7) Why would I use a universal five-hub round box instead of a standard condulet body?
A directional body (an LB, T or C shape) fixes the routing when you install it. The GRJS is a compact round box with five universal hubs, so one part number covers a change of direction, a splice point, a pull point, or a future branch; you close what you don't use with the supplied plugs. It's the better choice where clearance is tight or where you want maintenance access along a run without stocking several body styles.
8) Do I need a separate bonding jumper across this box?
