Appleton U-Line ECS Factory-Sealed 15 and 20 Amp Plug and Receptacle Set, 3-Pole
The Appleton U-Line ECS Factory-Sealed 15 and 20 Amp Plug and Receptacle Set is a dead-front, 3-pole, 2-wire connection system engineered for hazardous location electrical equipment. Rated 125 Vac or 250 Vac, this factory-sealed design confines arcing safely inside the receptacle interior so no external seals are required. Built from copper-free aluminum with an epoxy powder coat finish and fiberglass-reinforced polyester insulating blocks, the assembly is rated for Class I, Division 1 and 2 Groups B, C, D; Class II, Division 1 and 2 Group G (Coal Dust); and Class III hazardous locations, with CSA Type 7BCD, 9G recognition.
Key Features
- Dead Front Design: Energized receptacle contacts are deeply recessed to reduce the danger of accidental touching.
- Durable Construction: Copper-free (4/10 of 1% max.) aluminum housing with epoxy powder coat finish and fiberglass-reinforced polyester insulating blocks for superior dielectric and mechanical strength with lowest arc tracking.
- Factory Sealed: No external seals required; arcing is safely confined to the receptacle interior.
- Sealing Gasket: Neoprene gasket in the throat of the receptacle seals against the plug or spring-loaded cover to keep out water, dust, and corrosive compounds.
- Blade-Type Contacts: Unique brass contacts exert constant pressure along the entire contact surface for superior electrical contact.
- Intermateable Design: Compatible with competitor plugs of like configurations; the ECP plug also fits any standard non-explosionproof receptacle (NEMA 5-15R, 5-20R, or 6-20R) as well as U-Line explosionproof receptacles.
- Electrical Rating: 125 Vac or 250 Vac, 15 and 20 amp, 3-pole, 2-wire, with 1 and 2 horsepower ratings.
- Mounting Flexibility: Mounting box supports dead-end or feed-thru entries; plug accepts cable diameters from .538 to .639.

Why Appleton?
Appleton engineers the U-Line ECS Series with copper-free aluminum construction, epoxy powder coat finishing, and fiberglass-reinforced polyester insulators to deliver superior dielectric and mechanical strength in demanding hazardous environments. The factory-sealed, dead-front design and recessed contacts help keep personnel safe while maintaining reliable, code-compliant electrical connections for Class I, II, and III classified installations.
U-Line family note: this is the ECS/ECSK dead-front design — the receptacle stays de-energized until the plug is fully inserted, no external seals required. It is a different mechanism from the EFSR/straight-blade spring-door line and from the Contender sub-line (both sold as separate listings) — not interchangeable parts of one product.
