1) Can the Appleton U-Line EFSR-2023M be used in a Class I Division 1 area?
Yes. The Appleton U-Line factory-sealed 20A plug and receptacle is classified for Class I, Division 1 and 2 Groups B, C, D; Class II, Division 1 and 2 Groups F, G; and Class III. It also carries NEMA 3 and 3R enclosure ratings, so it holds up outdoors and in wet locations. Group B coverage matters if you have hydrogen present, since plenty of hazardous-location devices stop at Groups C and D.
2) Will the Appleton ECP Interchanger plug work in a regular shop receptacle?
It will. The ECP Interchanger plug mates with any standard non-explosionproof NEMA 5-20R or 6-20R receptacle as well as U-Line explosionproof receptacles, so a portable tool or piece of equipment cordset can move between a classified area and a normal 20A outlet. The reverse is blocked on purpose: a standard plug will not mate with the U-Line receptacle, because the plug's built-in switch contacts only close when it is twisted into place.
3) What size cord will fit the Appleton U-Line ECP plug?
The plug accepts cable with an outside diameter of .538 to .639 inches. Measure the jacket OD on your cordset before ordering; anything outside that window will not seal properly in the plug's cord grip.
4) Is the Appleton EFSR the same as the Appleton ECS or Contender receptacles?
No. The EFSR is the U-Line straight-blade, spring-door design using the ECP Interchanger twist-lock plug mechanism. The ECS/ECSK dead-front line and the Contender sub-line are separate designs sold separately, and their parts are not interchangeable with EFSR components. Order the EFSR plug and receptacle together if you are building a new connection point.
5) Can a Bryant 5362B or Pass & Seymour 26352W 20A receptacle be used instead of the Appleton EFSR-2023M in a classified area?
No. The Appleton U-Line EFSR-2023M is a factory-sealed 20A plug and receptacle classified for Class I, Division 1 and 2 Groups B, C, D; Class II, Division 1 and 2 Groups F, G; Class III; and NEMA 3, 3R. The Bryant 5362B is a heavy-duty 20A/125V duplex receptacle and the Pass & Seymour 26352W is a 20A 125V heavy-duty specification grade decorator duplex receptacle - both are general-purpose wiring devices without hazardous-location classification. For a Division 1 or Division 2 area, the explosionproof U-Line device is the one that fits the requirement.
6) What voltage and horsepower can the Appleton U-Line 20A receptacle handle?
