1) Can I use the Arrow FS1250 on a wood fire door?
Not as catalogued here. The FS1250 is set up for hollow metal doors, where the F prefix carries a UL and CUL listing for 3 hour, A label and lesser doors. Arrow does list fire exit hardware for wood doors up to 1-1/2 hour B label, but this particular device is not flagged wood door compatible. If your opening is a wood fire door, the Adams Rite 3700 Series is a fire rated rim device that is listed wood door compatible.
2) Is the Arrow FS1250 a panic device or fire exit hardware, and what code does it meet?
Both listings apply. The S1250 is UL and CUL listed to the accident hazard (panic) standard, and the F prefix version is fire exit hardware, UL and CUL listed for 3 hour A label hollow metal doors. Important caveat for the fire rated FS version: fire exit hardware is not permitted to be dogged, so on a labeled opening the dogging feature is not usable. If you need a door held in push-pull mode during business hours, put the dogged device on a non-rated opening.
5) I need the same device for a 48 inch opening instead of 36 inch — what should I order?
The Arrow FS1250 rail is furnished for doors up to 36 inches and can be cut down to 32 inches, so it does not cover a 48 inch leaf. For a fire rated 48 inch opening, the Marks USA M9900F-48 is a 48 inch fire rated rim panic device in exit only function. If the opening does not require a fire label, the Corbin Russwin ED3200 is a Grade 1 48 inch crossbar rim device and the Dormakaba 9300 is a Grade 1 48 inch wide stile rim device, exit only.
6) Our door is a narrow stile aluminum storefront — is the Arrow FS1250 the right device?
The Arrow FS1250 requires a 4-1/2 inch minimum stile, and 4-5/8 inch on fire labeled devices, so a narrow stile storefront leaf will not take it. For narrow stile openings, the Adams Rite 3700 Series is a fire rated Grade 1 narrow stile rim device; if no fire label is needed, the Adams Rite 8800, TownSteel ED3700, Corbin Russwin ED4200, and Falcon 19-R are all Grade 1 narrow stile rim devices.

On a single door in a hollow metal frame the rim device is the simpler install.
