1) Is the Arrow S1250 fire rated, and can I put it on a labeled door?
The S1250 as supplied is not a fire exit device. Arrow builds the fire version of this hardware with an "F" prefix on the part number, and that is what carries the UL and CUL listing for hollow metal doors up to 3 hour, A label, and up to 1-1/2 hour B label on wood doors. If your opening is labeled, order the F-prefix version, not the plain S1250. Fire rated rim devices already stocked as such include the Marks USA M9900F in 36 and 48 inch, the Orca OED85 Series 36 inch, and the Dexter ED1000 fire rated rim device.
2) Do I need to order a left hand or right hand Arrow S1250?
No handing to specify. The S1250 is reversible, so one part number covers both swings and a property manager stocking spares only has to carry one device for a run of openings. Field-reverse it at install to suit the door.
3) My door is 32 inches wide. Will the 36 inch Arrow S1250 work, or do I need a different size?
The 36 inch S1250 covers doors up to 36 inches, and the rail can be cut down on site to suit a 32 inch leaf, so you do not need a separate part number for that opening. For doors outside that band, Arrow furnishes alternate rail sizes for narrower and wider doors. Cutting the rail is standard practice on this device, not a modification that has to be ordered special.
4) Will the Arrow S1250 latch into the strike I already have on the frame?
The S1250 throws a 3/4 inch (19.05mm) stainless steel latchbolt onto a surface-mounted rim strike on the frame stop. It does not use a mortised ANSI strike prep, so if the existing opening had a mortise lock or a cylindrical lockset, the old strike will not accept it and you will be mounting a new rim strike. If you are pulling off another rim panic device, the strike location is the same style of surface mount and the 3/4 inch throw is a standard rim device throw, but verify the existing strike lip and screw pattern before reusing it.
