ARROW GL Series Cylindrical Locksets

Arrow GL Series Grade 1 heavy duty levers offer an economically pleasing solution for ADA compliance.
The GL solution is designed with the installer in mind, providing fewer subcomponents to allow for an easier to install system. Simply put, the GL Series will be your number one choice when economy is your first priority.


Standard features

  • Housing: Interlocking lever tubes are made from dichromate plated steel. The tubes are attached to the rose insert. This offers fantastic support for a ridged feel without excess movement. Standard bearing sleeves used on most other Arrow lever series are not used on the GL.
    Requires standard 2-1/8" (53.97mm) bore through door.
  • Thru-Bolts: Removable thru-bolts standard on GL Series.
  • OverDrive: Freewheeling lever action occurs when latch retraction mechanism disengages from lever handle when handle is locked. Built-in stops in the rose insert prevent lever from traveling beyond approximately 70 degrees.
  • Backset: 2-3/4" (69.85mm) standard. See price book for alternate backsets.
  • Latch: Stainless Steel with 1/2" (12.7mm) throw standard. Latch housing is steel, zinc dichromate finish for corrosion resistance. 1" (25.4mm) bore in edge of door is required.
  • Latch Front: Brass and stainless steel. 2-1/4" (57.15mm) x 1-1/8" (28.57mm), 1/8" (3.175mm) in 2" (50.8mm).
  • Exposed Trim: Levers are pressure cast zinc. Streamline rose scalp of brass or bronze complements other series of lever locks.
  • Rose Inserts: Contain coil spring which is a permanent assembly within rose insert. Inside and outside rose scalps are retained by dimples that create an interference fit with the rose inserts. There are no special retention features added to the rose insert that align the scalp.
  • Strike: Brass and stainless steel. ANSI A115.2, 4-7/8" (123.82mm) x 1-1/4" (31.75mm) curved lip strike standard.
  • Door Thickness: 1-3/8" (34.92mm) to 2" (50.8mm).

1) Will the Arrow GL82 storeroom lever fit a 1-3/4 inch commercial door?
Yes. The GL82 is rated for doors 1-3/4 to 2 inches thick, which covers the standard commercial door and the thicker leaves you see on some older openings. It needs a standard 2-1/8 inch cross bore through the face and a 1 inch bore in the door edge for the latch. Backset is 2-3/4 inches standard.
2) What does storeroom function mean on the Arrow GL82, and is it the right lock for a mechanical or supply room?
Storeroom function means the outside lever is always rigid. You get in with a key in the outside lever only, and the inside lever always retracts the latch for free egress. There is no way to leave the outside unlocked, which is exactly what you want on a storage room, electrical closet, or mechanical room where the door must never be left open. If staff need to leave the door unlocked during the day, storeroom is the wrong function and you want an entry/office lock instead.
3) Will the Arrow GL82 latch into the strike that is already in my frame?
It depends on what is prepped. The GL82 ships with a 306 ASA strike measuring 4-7/8 x 1-1/4 inches, the standard ANSI A115.2 curved lip strike, so it drops into a frame already prepped for ANSI strike cutout. The latch throws 1/2 inch with a 2-1/4 x 1-1/8 inch faceplate. If your frame has a smaller square-corner residential strike, you will need to modify the frame or reuse a matching strike.
4) Can I get the Arrow GL82 to work on my existing Schlage C key system?
Yes. One of the cylinder choices on the GL82 is a conventional cylinder cut to the Schlage C keyway, so it keys into an existing C system without rekeying the building. The other options are Arrow's standard conventional cylinder, an SFIC housing supplied less core if you run small format interchangeable cores, and less cylinder if you are supplying your own. Keying is ordered keyed different or keyed alike, and you select None when you take a less-cylinder or less-core option.
5) What is the closest Grade 2 storeroom lever lock to the Arrow GL82?
The Cal-Royal AG05 is the nearest straight equivalent. Like the Arrow GL82, it is a Grade 2 storeroom function lever lockset, so the outside lever stays rigid and the key retracts the latch while the inside lever always gives free egress. The Hager 2580 with the Withnell lever is a second Grade 2 storeroom option. The difference that matters at the opening is door thickness: the GL82 covers 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch doors, the Cal-Royal AG05 covers 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch, and the Hager 2580 covers 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch. On a 2 inch door, the GL82 or the Hager 2580 fits; on a 1-3/8 inch door, the AG05 or the 2580 fits.
6) What is the difference between the Arrow GL82 storeroom lock and a classroom lever?
Function, not construction. On the Arrow GL82, the key in the outside lever retracts the latchbolt and the outside lever is always rigid, so the door is permanently locked from the corridor side and cannot be left unlocked. A classroom lever instead lets a key unlock and relock the outside lever so staff can leave the room open. The Cal-Royal AG03 classroom lever is a Grade 2 AG series lock with a 6-pin Schlage C keyway keyed different and a 2-3/4 inch backset, and the Dexter C1000 classroom is a Grade 1 clutching keyed lever. Choose storeroom for stock rooms and mechanical rooms that must never sit unlocked.
7) I already key my building to Schlage C - does the Arrow GL82 work, or do I need another brand?
The Arrow GL82 is offered with a CS conventional cylinder in the Schlage C keyway, so it drops into an existing Schlage C system, and it is also offered as SFIC less core or conventional less cylinder if you supply your own cylinders. Among comparable keyed levers, the Cal-Royal AG00 entrance lever and AG03 classroom lever also ship with a 6-pin Schlage C keyway keyed different, with the AG00 on a 2-3/8 inch backset and the AG03 on a 2-3/4 inch backset.
8) Do I have to specify a hand when I order the Arrow GL82?
No handing to specify. The GL82 is non-handed, so one lock covers left and right hand doors and you can stock a single part number across a building. That also means a lock pulled off one opening can be reused on another swinging the other way.
9) What happens to the Arrow GL82 lever if someone forces it while the door is locked?
The lever freewheels rather than breaking. Arrow's OverDrive action disengages the latch retraction mechanism from the outside lever when it is locked, so pushing down on it spins the handle instead of loading the internal parts. Stops built into the rose insert hold the lever to roughly 70 degrees of travel. On a storeroom door that gets yanked on regularly, that is the part that keeps it in service.
10) Is anything else needed to install the Arrow GL82, or does it come complete?
It installs complete on a standard prepped door. The lock comes with the G71 deadlatch on a 2-3/4 inch backset, the 306 ASA strike, and wood and machine screws, plus removable thru-bolts that are standard on the GL Series. Thru-bolts matter on hollow metal and on doors that see abuse, since they tie both roses together through the door rather than relying on the rose screws alone.

Yes. Keying is selected on the order as keyed different or keyed alike, so a run of GL82 locks going onto storage and utility doors can share one key. Keyed different is the default. For a facility already running small format interchangeable cores, take the SFIC less core option instead and pin your own cores into the whole set.
12) Is the Arrow GL82 lever ADA compliant for a commercial building?
The GL Series lever design is built for ADA compliance, which is the practical reason to use a lever rather than a knob on a commercial opening: it operates without grasping, pinching, or twisting the wrist. 13) What is the Arrow GL82 latch faceplate size, and will it drop into an existing edge prep?
The faceplate is 2-1/4 x 1-1/8 inches with a 1/8 inch radius in 2 inches, on the G71 deadlatch at a 2-3/4 inch backset. That is the common commercial edge prep, so on a door already carrying an ANSI-prepped cylindrical lock the latch mortise usually takes it without rework. Where it will not go is a door bored at a 2-3/8 inch backset, since the standard GL latch is 2-3/4.
14) What should I use instead of the Arrow GL82 if the door needs to stay unlocked all day?
Storeroom function on the GL82 keeps the outside lever rigid until a key is used, which is wrong for a door meant to swing freely. For a corridor, hall or closet door, the Falcon B101 is a Grade 2 medium duty cylindrical passage lever with a non-handed design, and the Hager 2510 is a Grade 2 passage lever covering 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch doors. If the door needs to be secured only sometimes rather than always, the Hager 2525 Grade 2 entry lock and the Falcon B511CP6D Grade 2 entry/office lever both give a lockable outside lever that can be left free.
15) If I need a heavier duty lock than the Arrow GL82 for a high traffic opening, what steps up?
The GL82 is a Grade 2 commercial cylindrical lever. Where the specification calls for Grade 1, the Dexter C1000 series covers the keyed functions on 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors in classroom, classroom security and entry/office, and the C1000 asylum version (F87) covers 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch doors. The Corbin Russwin CL3100 series is a Grade 1 vandal resistant cylindrical lever built for 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch doors, the same thickness band the GL82 covers. Note the functions differ: the Dexter and Corbin Russwin models named here are not storeroom function locks.
16) Is a Kwikset or Callan lever a substitute for the Arrow GL82?
They are built for a different duty level. The Arrow GL82 is a Grade 2 commercial cylindrical lever with storeroom function. The Kwikset 200BRNL Breton passage and 300BRNL Breton privacy levers are Grade 3 sets for 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors, the Master Lock RL01 keyed entry lever is Grade 3, and the Callan Artino and Bennett entrance leversets are Grade 3 as well. None of those carry the storeroom function the GL82 provides, and the Kwikset and Callan models named are passage, privacy or entrance rather than storeroom.
17) Can I use a keypad lever instead of the keyed Arrow GL82 to avoid issuing keys?
Yes, if the opening does not require storeroom function. The GL82 secures with a key in the outside lever. The Lockey 1150 heavy duty mechanical keypad lever set is passage function and fits 1-1/8 inch to 2 inch doors, and the Lockey 2835 mechanical pushbutton keyless lever is passage function, ADA compliant, and fits doors 1-3/16 inch to 2 inch, with a 2835DC double combination version at the same thickness range. The Delaney LP250 electronic keypad leverlock is Grade 2. Understand the trade: a keypad lever with passage function does not hold the outside lever rigid the way the storeroom GL82 does.
18) Do I need to know the door hand when ordering the Arrow GL82 or its alternatives?
No. The Arrow GL82 is non-handed, so one part number covers left and right hand doors. The Falcon B101 Grade 2 passage lever and Falcon K101 Grade 1 passage lock are also non-handed. Handing does matter on some comparable trim: the Baldwin Estate 5103 half dummy is sold as a distinct left hand and right hand part, so those must be ordered to the door.
19) Does the Arrow GL82 work on a fire rated opening, or do I need a different lock?
For openings where the fire rating has to be documented on the hardware, the Corbin Russwin CL3110 Grade 1 vandal resistant cylindrical lever carries a fire rating and covers 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch doors, and the Falcon K101 Grade 1 heavy duty cylindrical lock carries a fire rating and covers 1-3/8 inch to 2-1/4 inch doors. Both of those are passage/closet function, so a fire rated opening that also needs to stay locked from the corridor will need the storeroom function the Arrow GL82 provides on 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch doors.
20) What finishes does the Arrow GL82 Sierra lever come in?
Three: 605 bright brass, 613 satin bronze oil-rubbed, and 626 satin chrome. Every one of the four cylinder options is available in all three, so you can standardize a finish across a building and still mix conventional, Schlage C keyway, SFIC, and less-cylinder locks on different doors. 626 satin chrome is the usual match for commercial openings already running satin finish hardware.
21) I need matching levers on doors that do not get keyed - what pairs with the Arrow GL82?
The GL82 is a keyed single cylinder lever set, so openings that need no key take a different lockset. In Grade 2, the Falcon B101 passage lever, the Hager 2510 passage lever, the Design Hardware J75 flat lever passage set for 1-3/4 inch doors, and the Accentra 5301LN Augusta passage/closet lever all cover hall and closet doors. For a door leaf that only needs trim with no latch at all, the BEST 7KC single dummy trim is Grade 2 and the BEST 9K 1DT single dummy trim is Grade 1 heavy duty.
