ARROW GL Series Cylindrical Locksets

Arrow GL Series Grade 1 heavy duty levers offer an economically pleasing solution for ADA compliance.
The GL solution is designed with the installer in mind, providing fewer subcomponents to allow for an easier to install system. Simply put, the GL Series will be your number one choice when economy is your first priority.


Standard features

  • Housing: Interlocking lever tubes are made from dichromate plated steel. The tubes are attached to the rose insert. This offers fantastic support for a ridged feel without excess movement. Standard bearing sleeves used on most other Arrow lever series are not used on the GL.
    Requires standard 2-1/8" (53.97mm) bore through door.
  • Thru-Bolts: Removable thru-bolts standard on GL Series.
  • OverDrive: Freewheeling lever action occurs when latch retraction mechanism disengages from lever handle when handle is locked. Built-in stops in the rose insert prevent lever from traveling beyond approximately 70 degrees.
  • Backset: 2-3/4" (69.85mm) standard. See price book for alternate backsets.
  • Latch: Stainless Steel with 1/2" (12.7mm) throw standard. Latch housing is steel, zinc dichromate finish for corrosion resistance. 1" (25.4mm) bore in edge of door is required.
  • Latch Front: Brass and stainless steel. 2-1/4" (57.15mm) x 1-1/8" (28.57mm), 1/8" (3.175mm) in 2" (50.8mm).
  • Exposed Trim: Levers are pressure cast zinc. Streamline rose scalp of brass or bronze complements other series of lever locks.
  • Rose Inserts: Contain coil spring which is a permanent assembly within rose insert. Inside and outside rose scalps are retained by dimples that create an interference fit with the rose inserts. There are no special retention features added to the rose insert that align the scalp.
  • Strike: Brass and stainless steel. ANSI A115.2, 4-7/8" (123.82mm) x 1-1/4" (31.75mm) curved lip strike standard.
  • Door Thickness: 1-3/8" (34.92mm) to 2" (50.8mm).

1) How does the Arrow GL87 classroom lock actually work when someone locks it?
Classroom function, so the key does all the work from the corridor side. The key in the outside lever locks and unlocks the outside lever only; once locked, the outside lever won't retract the latchbolt until it's keyed back. The inside lever is always free for egress, no matter what state the outside is in. There is no pushbutton or thumbturn, which is why schools specify it: a student cannot lock the door, only a keyholder can.

It uses the standard commercial bored prep: a 2-1/8 inch cross bore through the face of the door, a 1 inch bore in the edge for the latch, and a 2-3/4 inch backset. The latch faceplate is 2-1/4 by 1-1/8 inches. If your current lock is a standard 161 prep at 2-3/4 backset, the GL87 goes straight in.
4) Will the GL87 latch into the strike already in my frame?
It ships with a 306 ASA ANSI strike, 4-7/8 by 1-1/4 inches, which is the standard commercial frame cutout. The G71 deadlatch has a 1/2 inch throw. If your frame is already prepped for a 4-7/8 ANSI strike, the existing strike will work and you can keep the frame as is.

Four choices. Standard conventional cylinder is the default Arrow keyway. CS gives you a conventional cylinder cut to the Schlage C keyway, which is the one to pick if the building is already keyed on Schlage C. IC is SFIC prepped less core, for facilities running small format interchangeable core so your locksmith drops in their own core. LC is conventional less cylinder, for shops that supply and pin their own. It's a single cylinder lock, keyed outside only.
6) We need the classroom door lockable from inside during a lockdown - is the GL87 right?
No. The Arrow GL87 is a classroom function lock: the key outside locks and unlocks the outside lever only, and the inside lever is always free. There is no inside keyed control. For lockdown from within the room, use the Dexter C1000 Series Classroom Security lock, a Grade 1 clutching keyed classroom security cylindrical lever, which is the function built for that scenario.
7) What is the closest cross-brand equivalent to the Arrow GL87 classroom lever lock?

The Lockey 2835 mechanical pushbutton keyless lever lock is ADA compliant with passage function and fits doors 1 3/16 to 2 inch, and the Delaney LP250 is a Grade 2 electronic keypad leverlock.
