ARROW GL Series Cylindrical Locksets

Arrow GL Series Grade 1 heavy duty levers offer an economically pleasing solution for ADA compliance.
The GL solution is designed with the installer in mind, providing fewer subcomponents to allow for an easier to install system. Simply put, the GL Series will be your number one choice when economy is your first priority.

 

Standard features 

  • Housing: Interlocking lever tubes are made from dichromate plated steel. The tubes are attached to the rose insert. This offers fantastic support for a ridged feel without excess movement. Standard bearing sleeves used on most other Arrow lever series are not used on the GL.
    Requires standard 2-1/8" (53.97mm) bore through door.
  • Thru-Bolts: Removable thru-bolts standard on GL Series.
  • OverDrive: Freewheeling lever action occurs when latch retraction mechanism disengages from lever handle when handle is locked. Built-in stops in the rose insert prevent lever from traveling beyond approximately 70 degrees.
  • Backset: 2-3/4" (69.85mm) standard. See price book for alternate backsets.
  • Latch: Stainless Steel with 1/2" (12.7mm) throw standard. Latch housing is steel, zinc dichromate finish for corrosion resistance. 1" (25.4mm) bore in edge of door is required.
  • Latch Front: Brass and stainless steel. 2-1/4" (57.15mm) x 1-1/8" (28.57mm), 1/8" (3.175mm) in 2" (50.8mm).
  • Exposed Trim: Levers are pressure cast zinc. Streamline rose scalp of brass or bronze complements other series of lever locks.
  • Rose Inserts: Contain coil spring which is a permanent assembly within rose insert. Inside and outside rose scalps are retained by dimples that create an interference fit with the rose inserts. There are no special retention features added to the rose insert that align the scalp.
  • Strike: Brass and stainless steel. ANSI A115.2, 4-7/8" (123.82mm) x 1-1/4" (31.75mm) curved lip strike standard.
  • Door Thickness: 1-3/8" (34.92mm) to 2" (50.8mm).

1) What door prep does the Arrow GL97 lever lock need?
Standard cylindrical prep: a 2-1/8 inch bore through the door face and a 1 inch bore in the door edge for the latch. The latch front measures 2-1/4 by 1-1/8 inches. If your doors are already prepped for a 161 cylindrical lockset, the GL97 drops in.
2) Which cylinder option should I pick on the Arrow GL97 for my existing master key system?
Four cylinder choices: standard conventional cylinder, CS conventional cylinder in the Schlage C keyway, LC conventional less cylinder, and IC for small format interchangeable core supplied less core. If the building runs a Schlage C system, take the CS. If you are on small format IC, take the IC version and install your own core. LC is the one to order when your locksmith is supplying and keying the cylinder.
3) What is the difference between a classroom security lock and a plain classroom lock?
A plain classroom function keys only from the outside, so someone has to open the door and reach into the hallway to lock it. Classroom security, like the Arrow GL97, keys both sides, letting the room be locked down from inside. Cal-Royal's AG03 is a standard classroom lever on a 2-3/4 inch backset if you do not need inside keying; Dexter's C1000 series is sold in both flavors, the C1000 Classroom and the C1000 Classroom Security.
4) What is the difference between classroom security and standard classroom function when choosing a lever lock?
On the Arrow GL97 classroom security function, a key from either the inside or the outside locks or unlocks the outside lever, and the inside lever always operates the latchbolt - so a teacher can secure the door from inside the room without stepping into the corridor. A standard classroom lever such as the Dexter C1000 classroom function or the Cal-Royal AG03 classroom lever is keyed from the outside only. For lockdown procedures the inside keyed cylinder is the deciding feature.
5) What is the closest cross-brand equivalent to the Arrow GL97 classroom security lock?
The Dexter C1000-CSEC is the nearest match by function - it is a classroom security cylindrical lever lock, keyed, with clutching lever action. The difference is grade and door range: the Dexter C1000 classroom security lock is Grade 1 and covers 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors, while the Arrow GL97 is Grade 2 (ANSI/BHMA F110) and is specified for 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch doors. 7) Do I have to order the Arrow GL97 lever handed for left or right doors?
No. The GL97 is non-handed, so one part number covers left and right hand openings. That simplifies stocking when you are standardizing classroom doors across a building.
8) Can I get a batch of Arrow GL97 classroom locks keyed alike?
Yes. Keying is a required selection: KD keyed different is the standard, KA keyed alike is there for running multiple locks on one key, and None is the choice that goes with the less cylinder options. There is also a key code field if the locks need to match an existing code.
9) What happens to the Arrow GL97 lever when someone yanks on it while the door is locked?
The outside lever freewheels. Arrow's OverDrive design disengages the latch retraction mechanism from the handle when the lever is locked, and stops built into the rose insert hold lever travel to roughly 70 degrees. That is what keeps students from breaking the lock by hanging on the handle.

Grade 2 cylindrical passage levers are the matching class: the Falcon B101 non-handed Grade 2 passage lever, the Hager 2510 Grade 2 passage lever, the Accentra 5301LN Augusta Grade 2 passage, or the Design Hardware J75 Grade 2 flat-lever passage set. Like the Arrow GL97, the Falcon B101 is non-handed, so it installs the same way on either swing. Lever shape and rose style differ by brand, so confirm the trim look if the corridor needs to read as one set.
14) Can a keypad or keyless lever be used in place of the Arrow GL97 on a classroom door?
Not as an equivalent. The Arrow GL97 is a keyed cylindrical lever with classroom security function, where a key on either side controls the outside lever. The Arrow GL97 is a commercial Grade 2 cylindrical lever. Grade 3 levers such as the Kwikset 200BRNL Breton passage, the Kwikset 300BRNL Breton privacy, the Master Lock RL Series keyed entry, the Cal-Royal AUS00 entrance/office, and the Callan Artino and Asheville leversets sit a grade below and are not keyed for classroom security function. On a school or institutional opening where the spec names a grade and a classroom function, they are not interchangeable with the GL97.
16) We key everything on Schlage C - does that change the choice between the Arrow GL97 and a Cal-Royal classroom lever?
Both can be had on Schlage C. The Arrow GL97 offers a CS conventional cylinder in Schlage C keyway, along with a standard conventional cylinder, an SFIC less-core option, and a conventional less-cylinder option so you can install your own.
