1) Will the Arrow MLX72 privacy lever fit my existing 2-1/8 inch bore door prep?
Yes. The MLX72 drops into a standard 2-1/8 inch cross bore with a 2-3/4 inch backset, and it fits doors from 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inches thick. The latch front is 1-1/8 x 2-1/4 inches, which is the standard commercial latch face, so most existing edge prep takes it without rework.
2) How does the Arrow MLX72 privacy function actually lock and unlock?
The lever works from both sides until you turn the inside turnbutton, which locks the outside lever. Rotating the button releases it, and from the corridor side you can unlock it with an emergency tool. That is ANSI/BHMA F76, the standard bed and bath privacy function, so no key and no cylinder are involved.
3) Do I need to order the Arrow MLX72 handed for a left or right swing door?
No handing to specify. The MLX72 is non-handed, so one part number covers both swings and you can stock a single SKU across a building.
4) Will the Arrow MLX72 latch into the strike already in my frame?
It ships with a 306 ASA ANSI strike, 4-7/8 x 1-1/4 inches, which is the standard commercial frame cutout. If your frame is already prepped for a 4-7/8 inch ANSI strike, the existing prep works. Residential frames with a small T-strike or round-corner faceplate will need new prep.
5) Will the Arrow MLX72 work on a 2 inch thick door?
No. Standard range is 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inches. For thicker leaves, the Hager 2540 privacy lever covers 1-3/8 to 2 inches, and the Falcon K101 goes to 2-1/4 inches though it is a passage function.
6) What is a comparable Grade 2 commercial privacy lever to the Arrow MLX72?
The Hager 2540 with the Withnell lever is a close commercial match. Both the Arrow MLX72 and the Hager 2540 are Grade 2 cylindrical privacy locks with a lever handle. The MLX72 fits doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch thick, while the Hager 2540 covers 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch, so the Hager reaches thicker doors if the opening calls for it.
7) I need the same lever style on a bedroom door but with no locking at all - what do I order instead of the MLX72?
The MLX72 is a privacy function, where the inside turnbutton locks the outside lever. For an opening that should never lock, use a passage function instead: the Falcon B101 is a Grade 2 non-handed cylindrical passage lever, and the Accentra 5301LN Augusta is a Grade 2 cylindrical passage lever in the 5300 Series. Both match the MLX72's Grade 2 rating with the lever free from both sides at all times.
8) Is there a heavier duty alternative to the Arrow MLX72 for a high traffic opening?
The MLX72 is a Grade 2 lock. For a heavier specification, Falcon's K Series K101 and T Series T101 are both Grade 1 heavy duty cylindrical levers, and the Corbin Russwin CL3110 is a Grade 1 vandal resistant cylindrical lever. Note these three are passage function rather than privacy, so they do not carry the turnbutton locking the MLX72 provides.
9) What looks like a substitute for the MLX72 but will not lock a bathroom door?
Dummy trim is the common mix-up. The BEST 7KC 1DT and 9K 1DT single dummy trims, the Accentra 455LN Augusta single dummy, and the Callan Bentley dummy lever are all fixed levers with no latch and no locking mechanism - they are pull trim only. The Arrow MLX72 is a working privacy lock whose latchbolt is operated by the lever from either side until the inside turnbutton locks the outside.
10) The doors I am doing need a key, not a turnbutton - what takes the place of the MLX72?
The MLX72 is non-keyed.
