Arrow QL01-SR-26D – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What door prep does the Arrow QL01 lever lock need - will it go into an existing 161 bore?
Standard 2-1/8 inch (54mm) cross bore through the door with a 2-3/4 inch backset, and the latch face is 1-1/8 x 2-1/4 inches. That is the ordinary commercial cylindrical prep, so a door already bored for a 2-3/4 backset cylindrical lock takes the QL01 with no new boring. If your existing door is bored 2-3/8 backset, the hole through the face is in the wrong place for this one.
2) Do I have to specify a hand when I order the Arrow QL01?
No handing to specify. The QL01 is non-handed, levers work from both sides, so one part number covers left and right hand openings. For a property manager stocking spares that means a single SKU on the shelf instead of two.
3) Does the Arrow QL01 lock or take a key?
Neither. Passage function only: the latchbolt retracts from the lever on either side and there is no cylinder and no key. Use it on corridor, hall and closet doors where you want a latch that holds the door closed but never secures it. If the opening needs to lock, you want a different function in the QL Series, not this model.
4) Is the Arrow QL01 lever heavy duty enough for a school or hospital corridor?
It is a Grade 1 cylindrical lockset, the heaviest of the three ANSI/BHMA duty grades and the level normally specified for institutional and high traffic commercial openings. The QL01 carries ANSI/BHMA function designation F75, the passage/hall/closet function, and the levers freewheel when forced, which is what protects the internals from someone hanging on the handle.
5) Will the Arrow QL01 latch into the strike frame I already have?
The QL01 ships with a Q73 springlatch at 2-3/4 inch backset with a 1/2 inch throw, and a 306 ANSI strike measuring 4-7/8 x 1-1/4 inches. If your frame is already cut for a 4-7/8 ANSI strike, which is standard on hollow metal commercial frames, the supplied strike drops straight in. On a residential frame cut for a small T strike or a full lip strike, the frame needs to be prepped for the ANSI cutout or you will be filing the opening.
6) What other Grade 1 passage levers are there besides the Arrow QL01 for an abuse-prone door?
The Arrow QL01 is a Grade 1 passage cylindrical leverset with a freewheeling lever for abuse resistance. Comparable Grade 1 passage levers include the Falcon T101, a heavy duty cylindrical passage lever with pressure release technology, the Falcon K101 heavy duty passage lock, the Corbin Russwin CL3110 vandal resistant passage/closet lever, and the Design Hardware X75 passage lever lockset with a flat lever for 1-3/4 inch doors.
7) What is the closest Grade 1 passage lever to the Arrow QL01 if I need a fire-rated opening?
The Falcon K101 is a Grade 1 passage cylindrical lock that carries a fire rating and covers doors from 1-3/8 inch to 2-1/4 inch. The Arrow QL01 is also a Grade 1 passage cylindrical leverset, with a door thickness range of 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch. If the opening is a rated door assembly, the K101 is the Grade 1 passage lever in the set that states a fire rating.
8) The Arrow QL01 does not lock. What do I order for the same door if it needs to be keyed?
The QL01 is non-keyed passage: the latchbolt is operated by the lever from either side. For a keyed opening, the Dexter C1000 Entry/Office is a Grade 1 keyed cylindrical lever lock for 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors, the same thickness range as the QL01, and the Dexter C1000 Classroom is the Grade 1 keyed classroom version. The Cal-Royal AG05 is a Grade 2 storeroom lever with a deadlocking latchbolt.
9) Will a dummy lever work in place of the Arrow QL01?
No. A dummy trim has no latch at all; it is a pull mounted to the door face. The Arrow QL01 is a passage lockset whose latchbolt is operated by the lever from either side, so it holds the door closed. If you actually want trim with no latch, the BEST 9K 1DT is a Grade 1 single dummy trim cylindrical lever, the BEST 7KC 1DT is the Grade 2 version, and the Accentra 455LN Augusta is a Grade 1 single dummy lever.
10) Can I use a residential passage lever like the Kwikset 200BRNL instead of the Arrow QL01 in an office building?
They are not equivalent for commercial traffic. The Arrow QL01 is a Grade 1 commercial cylindrical passage leverset. The Kwikset 200BRNL Breton is a Grade 3 passage lever for 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors, and the Callan Asheville is a Grade 3 passage leverset. Grade 1 and Grade 3 are different ANSI/BHMA cycle and strength tiers, so a specification calling for Grade 1 is not met by either Grade 3 lever.
11) How much does the Arrow QL01 lever stick out from the door, and how long is the lever?
Total projection from the face of the door is 2-17/32 inches (65mm). The pressure cast zinc lever runs 4-3/4 inches (121mm) long and the wrought brass rose is 3-11/32 inches (85mm) in diameter. Those numbers matter when the door swings back against a wall, sits next to a jamb-mounted card reader, or has to clear a door in a tight cross-corridor pair.
12) What screws come with the Arrow QL01, and do I need anything else to install it?
Wood and machine screws are included, so it mounts to a wood door or a hollow metal door out of the box, and it is a two screw lockset install. Latch and ANSI strike are in the box too. Nothing else is needed on a passage opening: no cylinder, no key, no trim to order separately.
13) Do I actually need a Grade 1 passage lever, or will a Grade 2 do for interior offices?
Grade 1 like the QL01 earns its keep on high traffic corridors, restrooms and classroom doors where the lever gets abused. On lighter interior office and closet doors, a Grade 2 passage lever is the normal spec: the Falcon B101 and Accentra 5301LN Augusta are both Grade 2 cylindrical passage levers, and the Hager 2510 is a Grade 2 passage lever covering 1-3/8 to 2 inch doors. The trade off is cycle life and abuse resistance, not how the door functions day to day.
14) I need a lever on a door that does not latch at all, just pulls. Is the Arrow QL01 the right part?
No. The QL01 has a working springlatch, so the door latches every time it closes. For a lever that is trim only with no latch, on a closet slab or the inactive leaf of a pair, you want a dummy: the BEST 9K Series 1DT single dummy trim is Grade 1 non-keyed, and the Accentra 455LN Augusta is a Grade 1 single dummy lever. Ordering a passage lock for a dummy application means cutting a bore and a latch mortise you did not need.
15) Can I match the Arrow QL01 with a locking lever on the same corridor so all the doors look alike?
Within the QL Series, yes. The QL Series shares the same lever and rose trim across functions, so a keyed function in the same series and finish sits next to the QL01 and reads as one hardware set. Across brands you would be matching lever shape by eye, which rarely works. The QL01 itself is passage only, with no cylinder, so it is the door in that run that never locks.
16) Is there a Grade 2 passage lever alternative to the Arrow QL01 for lighter traffic doors?
Yes. The Falcon B101 is a Grade 2 medium duty cylindrical passage lever lock with a non-handed design, and the Hager 2510 is a Grade 2 passage cylindrical lever lock with the Withnell design covering 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch doors. The Accentra 5301LN Augusta and 4601LN are also Grade 2 passage cylindrical lever locks. The Arrow QL01 is Grade 1 and non-handed.
17) I put an Arrow QL01 on the hall doors but the bathroom needs a lock button. What matches?
The QL01 is passage only, non-keyed, with the latchbolt operated by the lever from either side, so it has no privacy function. For a bed or bath door, the Baldwin Estate 5103 Privacy lever with 5048 rose and the Kwikset 300BRNL Breton are privacy levers, the Kwikset being Grade 3 for 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors.
18) I want a keyless code entry lever instead of the Arrow QL01 passage set. What are the options?
The Arrow QL01 is a mechanical non-keyed passage leverset with no code entry. For pushbutton access on the same lever format, the Lockey 2835 is a mechanical pushbutton keyless lever lock with passage function and ADA compliance for 1-3/16 inch to 2 inch doors, the Lockey 2835DC adds double combination, and the Lockey 1150 is a heavy duty mechanical keypad lever set with passage function for 1-1/8 inch to 2 inch doors. The Delaney LP250 is a Grade 2 electronic keypad leverlock.
19) Is the Corbin Russwin 585F715 lever a replacement for an Arrow QL01?
No. The 585F715 is a Grade 1 lock lever for the ED8000 pushpad exit device and the CL3300 cylindrical lock series, so it is trim for those devices rather than a complete lockset. The Arrow QL01 is a full cylindrical passage lockset with its own Q73 springlatch on a 2-3/4 inch backset and a 306 ANSI strike. If you need a whole passage set, the Corbin Russwin CL3110 is the Grade 1 passage/closet cylindrical lever lock in that brand.
20) What is the difference between the Arrow QL01 and the Design Hardware J75 and X75 passage levers?
All three are passage lever locksets. The Arrow QL01 is Grade 1 and fits 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors. The Design Hardware X75 is a Grade 1 passage lever lockset with a flat lever for 1-3/4 inch doors, and the J75 is the Grade 2 passage lever lockset, also for 1-3/4 inch doors. If the doors in the building vary below 1-3/4 inch, the QL01 range covers the thinner leaf.
21) I need an electrified lever on one door and Arrow QL01 passage sets on the rest. What pairs with that?
The Arrow QL01 is a mechanical passage lockset with no electrical function. For the access-controlled opening, the Corbin Russwin CL33903 is a Grade 1 fail safe electrified cylindrical lever lock at 12VAC/DC for 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch doors, offered with the NZ lever and D rose.
22) What finishes does the Arrow QL01 passage lever come in?
Four: 605 bright brass, 626 satin chrome, 613E dark oxidized bronze, and BSP black suede powder coat. 626 is the usual choice when you are matching existing commercial hardware in a building; 613E and BSP are the ones people reach for on storefront and darker architectural packages.
23) Which passage lever should I use on an interior door where the look matters more than the grade?
The Arrow QL01 is a commercial Grade 1 cylindrical passage leverset in finishes including 605 bright brass, 626 satin chrome, 613E dark oxidized bronze and BSP black suede powder coat. For a decorative interior opening, the Baldwin Estate 5103 passage lever with 5048 rose is a passage lever in a residential estate line, and the Bravura Miramar, Atlanta, Orlando and Tampa are Grade 2 passage leversets with round or, in the Tampa, square trim.
