B-LINE E65VBL2N – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the B-Line E65 photoelectric sensor need a separate reflector or receiver?
No. The E65VBL2N is a diffuse reflective sensor, so the emitter and receiver are in the same housing and it senses light bounced back off the target itself. There is no reflector or opposed receiver to mount or align. Keep in mind the sensing ranges are quoted against a 90% reflectance card, so dark or matte targets will read shorter than the published range.
2) Can this photoelectric sensor be used in a washdown or wet area?
The E65 miniature sensor carries NEMA 1, 3, 4, 12 and 13 plus IP66, which covers dust, hosedown and washdown duty. The housing is ABS plastic, so check chemical compatibility with whatever cleaning agents get sprayed in the area before you commit to it.
3) How does the E65VBL2N sensor connect, and is there a quick-disconnect version?
This one is a hard-wired cable model with a 6.6 ft (2 m) PVC lead coming out of the body. There is no plug on it, so you land the conductors in a junction box or panel. If the run to your panel is longer than the pigtail, plan on a junction and extension cable.
4) Will this sensor fit in a tight machine guard bracket?
It is a miniature rectangular body: 1.97 in x 1.1 in x .51 in, weighing .28 lb. That slim profile is why it gets used on conveyor side rails, guards and tight tooling spots where a standard barrel sensor will not clear.
5) Can the E65 sensor be mounted in an unheated warehouse or cold dock area?
Operating range is 5 to 131 F (-15 to 55 C), so an unheated dock in most climates is fine, but a freezer or blast-chill application is outside it. Same on the top end: it is good to 131 F, not oven-adjacent heat.
6) Should I use a diffuse sensor like this or a through-beam for detecting parts on a conveyor?
Diffuse, like the E65VBL2N, is the simpler install: one device, one cable, no second unit to align across the conveyor. Use it where you can mount close to the target and the target reflects reasonably well. Through-beam or retroreflective is the better call for long spans, shiny or very dark targets, or dusty air where a bounced return signal gets weak. Note the E65 diffuse ranges are quoted off a 90% reflectance card.
7) Is there a way to confirm the sensor is seeing the target without a meter?
Yes, the E65 has LED indicators on the body, so during setup you can watch the light to confirm target detection and stable margin instead of metering the output. It also has short circuit and transient protection built in, which helps on shared DC buses with inductive loads.
