Baldwin 0416 Contemporary Oval Emergency Release Trim & 0417 Key w/ 6701 Cover

The 0416 is the outside trim for a privacy set. It's an oval plate with an emergency release, so a parent or hotel staff can unlock a bathroom or bedroom door from the hallway side when someone is locked in. The function is emergency release trim, not a keyed lock, so it gives no security from the outside. The 0417 emergency release key and a 6701 cover come with it.

Not keyed. The 0416 is a non-keyed emergency release trim, so it cannot be keyed alike or added to a master key system. It takes the small 0417 emergency release key only, which is a tool for popping the privacy lock, not a cylinder key. If you need an exterior door or an office door that keys into a system, you need a keyed entry or a mortise lock instead.

Baldwin lists the 0416 as residential door hardware. It suits homes, and light-duty settings like boutique hotel guest baths where the look matters, but it isn't offered with a commercial duty grade. For a school, hospital, or high-traffic office restroom, spec a commercial privacy lock rated for that traffic rather than this decorative trim.

It's neither a knob nor a complete lock. The 0416 is a backplate, the decorative plate that sits against the door face behind the knob, with the emergency release built into it. You still need the matching knob or lever and the privacy latch to complete the door. Order the trim to match the rest of the set, not as a standalone lockset.

Fourteen finishes: 003 Polished Brass, 031 Non-Lacquered Brass, 033 Vintage Brass, 044 Satin Brass, 050 Satin Brass and Black, 055 Polished Nickel, 056 Satin Nickel, 060 Satin Brass and Brown, 076 Graphite Nickel, 102 Oil Rubbed Bronze, 112 (11P) Venetian Bronze, 190 Satin Black, 260 Polished Chrome, and 402 Distressed Oil Rubbed Bronze. If you're matching existing Baldwin doors, order by that number code, since names repeat across brands but the code doesn't.

The 056 Satin Nickel is nickel plated over solid brass with a PVD topcoat, which is the durable end of decorative finishes and holds up to daily handling and cleaning. The living finishes are a different story: 031 Non-Lacquered Brass is meant to patina with handling, so if you want it to stay bright, pick a plated finish instead.

That's the intent of the design. The 0416 is a contemporary oval plate with a smooth, unornamented face, which Baldwin positions as transitional, so it sits between traditional and modern rooms without clashing. For a whole-house remodel where the styles vary room to room, it's an easier plate to standardize on than a heavily detailed one.
