Baldwin 6701102 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the Baldwin Estate 6701 cover actually do on a privacy lock?
The 6701 is a small brass cap that hides the emergency release hole on a Baldwin Estate privacy set. The release opening stays usable underneath, the cover just keeps it out of sight on the finished side of the door. It presses into place rather than screwing on.
2) What size hole does the Baldwin 6701 emergency release cover fit?
It measures 1/2 inch in diameter, so it suits the 1/2 inch release opening in Baldwin Estate escutcheon and emergency release trim. If the hole in your trim is a different diameter, this is not the part.
3) Will the Baldwin 6701 cover work with any brand of privacy lock trim?
It's made for Baldwin Estate Series escutcheon or emergency release trim. Treat it as a Baldwin Estate replacement part, not a universal cap for other manufacturers' privacy sets.
4) Can I buy just the emergency release cover if mine went missing, or do I need the whole trim?
The 6701 is sold on its own as a replacement part, so a lost or damaged cap doesn't mean replacing the escutcheon. It's solid brass and presses back into the 1/2 inch release opening.
5) Does the 6701 cover lock the door or change how the privacy function works?
No. It's cosmetic only. The privacy latch and its emergency release still operate exactly as before; the cap simply sits over the release hole and pops out under pressure when someone needs to get at it.
6) Is the Baldwin 6701 cover suitable for a commercial building or apartment corridor?
Baldwin lists the 6701 as residential. It's a trim accessory for Estate Series privacy locks on interior doors like bedrooms and baths, not a commercial-grade component.
