1) Will a 1/2 x 2-1/2 lag bolt hold in wood framing, or do I need an anchor?
The Metallics JBLS29 is a wood lag screw: full-bodied with spaced threads and a gimlet point, meant to be driven into wood in non-corrosive environments. It is not a masonry anchor. With 2-1/2 inches of overall length, allow for the thickness of whatever you are fastening through, and keep enough thread in solid lumber (not just sheathing) to carry the load. For concrete, block or brick you want a sleeve or wedge anchor instead.
2) Can I use these zinc lag bolts outdoors or in a damp location?
No. The JBLS29 is steel with a zinc finish and is specified for use in non-corrosive environments. Zinc plating is a dry-interior coating; for exterior, treated lumber, coastal or wet locations use a hot-dip galvanized or 18-8 stainless lag instead.
3) Are Metallics JBLS29 lag bolts Buy American or ARRA compliant for a federal job?
