1) What wire sizes does the Burndy 1PLO202 UNITAP connector accept?
The Burndy UNITAP 1PLO2/02 takes copper conductors from #14 AWG up to 2/0 AWG, and stranded aluminum from 8 AWG up to 2/0 AWG. So a #12 copper tap off a 2/0 copper run is inside the range, but a #12 aluminum tap is not, aluminum stops at 8 AWG on the small end.
2) Can I use the Burndy UNITAP to tap a copper conductor off an aluminum feeder?
Yes. The UNITAP 2-port connector is rated for both copper (14 AWG to 2/0) and stranded aluminum (8 AWG to 2/0), so mixed copper-to-aluminum run and tap combinations are within its listed range. The oxide inhibitor comes pre-installed from the factory, which is what you want on an aluminum termination, so there is no need to apply compound in the field.
