Camden CM-41 Series All-Active Switch, 4-1/2" Round Push Plate Switch with Square Back Plate, SPDT Wheelchair/PUSH TO OPEN, Blue Text

CM-40, CM-41 and CM-60 Series 'All-Active' push plate switches are heavy-duty, ADA-compliant door controls. Faceplates are stainless steel or solid brass, and the assembly is designed for easy installation. The CM-41 4-1/2" square stainless steel backplate is large enough to dress-up (cover) a poorly installed electrical box. It will also fit perfectly on most 4-1/2" surface boxes.

Camden Door Controls CM-41/4 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Camden CM-41 push plate cover a single gang box, and what size opening does it need?
The CM-41 mounts to a single gang electrical box. The round actuator is 4-1/2 inches in diameter and sits on a 4-1/2 inch square stainless backplate, which is big enough to cover a sloppy box cut or a chewed-up wall opening. It also sits correctly on most 4-1/2 inch surface boxes, so you can run it surface mount where you cannot get into the wall.
2) Can I wire the Camden CM-41 to a normally closed input on my door operator?
Yes. The switch is SPDT Form C momentary, so you get both a normally open and a normally closed contact off the same actuation and can land it on whichever input your operator or access control board expects. Contacts are rated 15A at 30 VDC, which is well beyond what a low voltage operator trigger draws.
3) Is this Camden push plate ADA compliant for a barrier free entrance?
The CM-41 is an ADA compliant door control, and the faceplate carries the wheelchair symbol with PUSH TO OPEN in blue. The All-Active design means the entire plate is the switch, so it triggers from a light touch anywhere on the face rather than needing a hard press in the center.
4) I want the door operator to stay energized for a set time after the press - is the Camden CM-41 the right switch?
The CM-41 is a momentary SPDT switch, so it signals only while pressed and any hold-open timing has to come from the operator or a separate controller. If you want the delay built into the plate itself, the Alarm Controls JP Series is a pneumatic time delay jumbo push plate and the PD Series family also uses pneumatic time delay. Those give you the timing at the actuator rather than downstream.
5) What is the closest stainless steel equivalent to the Camden CM-41 round push plate actuator?
The SDC 480 Series push plate actuators are the nearest like-for-like option, built from 18 gauge stainless steel the same way the CM-41 uses a stainless steel faceplate finish. Both are surface-usable door control actuators for automatic operator activation. The CM-41 specifics to match when you cross over are a 4-1/2 inch round plate, SPDT momentary contacts rated 15 A at 30 VDC, and 12/24V AC/DC operation.
6) I need a push plate for an exterior door in a high-abuse area instead of the Camden CM-41 - what should I look at?
Look at the Alarm Controls PD Series, which covers the PD, PN, PS and PT vandal resistant push plates built for exposed and high-abuse locations. The Camden CM-41 is a 4-1/2 inch round stainless steel all-active plate whose full face actuates with minimal force, which favors accessibility over resistance to deliberate abuse. Choose the vandal resistant family where the opening takes punishment and the CM-41 where low actuation force matters most.
7) What voltage does the Camden CM-41 push plate switch run on?
12 or 24V, AC or DC, drawing 40 mA. That matches the low voltage supply on most swing door operators and access control panels, so it usually shares power with the operator rather than needing its own supply.
8) Can the Camden CM-41 be used outside on an exterior entrance?
Camden push plate switches now ship with WR water resistance as standard, and the faceplate is stainless steel, so exterior use at a building entrance is within what the product is built for.
9) How is the Camden CM-41 different from a round push plate with no back plate?
Functionally they actuate the same way. The difference is the mounting face: the CM-41 pairs the 4-1/2 inch round actuator with a 4-1/2 inch square stainless backplate. Choose it when you are covering an existing hole, a poorly located box, or surface mounting to a 4-1/2 inch box. If the wall is clean and you just need the round plate on a single gang box, the plain CM-40 round switch is the same 4-1/2 inch actuator without the square dress plate.
10) I need a larger push plate than 4-1/2 inches for a high traffic vestibule. What are my options?
The CM-41 is a 4-1/2 inch round plate on a single gang box, which is the standard size for most barrier free entrances. For a larger target, Alarm Controls makes the JP Series jumbo push plate, and SDC offers the 480V Series vestibule actuators with dual switch activation for interlocked vestibule pairs. If you want no wall plate at all, SDC BP Series square bollard posts mount the actuator on a 6 x 6 inch post, surface mount at 42 inches or in-ground at 54 inches.
11) Is the Camden CM-41 vandal resistant enough for a school or public restroom entrance?
Construction is stainless steel with a 4 stud switch design and rubber dampers, which keeps actuation quiet and takes repeated abuse, and it is a commercial rated control. It is not marketed as a vandal resistant plate, though. Where you expect deliberate abuse, the Alarm Controls PD, PN, PS and PT series are built specifically as vandal resistant push plates, and SDC BP Series bollards move the actuator off the wall entirely.
12) What is the difference between the Camden CM-41 and the Locknetics PPH-100-PL large round push plate?
Both are large round push plate actuators. The Locknetics PPH-100-PL ships as a large round plate with a box and is offered in black and aluminum, while the Camden CM-41 is a 4-1/2 inch round plate in a stainless steel finish mounted on a 4-1/2 inch square stainless backplate that dresses up a poorly installed electrical box or sits on most 4-1/2 inch surface boxes. If the appearance spec calls for a brushed stainless face, the CM-41 matches it; if the design calls for black or aluminum, the PPH-100-PL does.
13) Can I mount a Camden CM-41 in an open walkway or parking approach where there is no wall?
The CM-41 is a wall-mounted plate sized for a single gang box or a 4-1/2 inch surface box, so it needs a mounting surface. Where there is no wall at the approach, the SDC BP Series square bollard posts give you a 6 inch by 6 inch post to carry the actuator, in a BPS6 surface mount 42 inch height or a BPG6 in-ground 54 inch height. That is the usual answer for exterior approaches and drive lanes.
14) For an ADA entrance where users may approach at different heights, is a push plate or a touch column the better choice?
A single Camden CM-41 is an ADA compliant all-active plate, 4-1/2 inch round, that requires minimal actuation force anywhere on its face, and it is set at one fixed mounting height. The SDC 480AA Series is a 36 inch by 6 inch Ingress-R.E.X touch panel column for ADA compliant access control, giving a tall active strip so seated and standing users hit the same device. Pick the column where approach height varies widely and the CM-41 where a conventional mounted plate suits the opening.
15) What finish is the Camden CM-41 faceplate and will it match my other stainless door hardware?
Stainless steel in US32 / 630 as standard, which is the satin stainless most commercial push plates, pulls and exit device trim are specified in. It will read consistently alongside other 630 hardware on the same opening.
