1) What credentials does the CDVI Krypto K1 reader read?
The Krypto K1 reads 13.56 MHz MiFare Classic and DESFire EV1/EV2 credentials, plus NFC. If your site is still running 125 kHz proximity cards, this reader will not read them; it is a 13.56 MHz smart card reader only.
2) Will the CDVI Krypto K1 work with a controller other than the CDVI Atrium A22K?
The K1 is built for the Atrium A22K controller, where the factory-programmed CDVI protocol and encryption keys give end-to-end encryption from card to reader to controller over a secure RS-485 connection. It is also OSDP-2 compatible, so it can talk to a third-party OSDP panel over RS-485, but the CDVI encrypted end-to-end path is an A22K arrangement. If you are not on an Atrium head end, plan the wiring as an OSDP RS-485 run.
3) Will the CDVI Krypto K1 reader fit on a narrow door mullion or frame?
The reader measures 1.65 x 5.5 x 0.91 inches (L x H x D), a mullion-style footprint that mounts on most aluminum storefront stiles and hollow metal frames. The 0.91 inch depth is what to check against any push bar or door swing clearance at the strike jamb.
4) Can the CDVI Krypto K1 be mounted outdoors or in an unheated garage?
Operating range is -13F to 140F with an IP53 rating. IP53 covers dust ingress and water spray from up to 60 degrees off vertical, so it handles a covered exterior entry, a parking structure, or an unheated vestibule. It is not rated for direct pressure washing or a fully exposed wall with driving rain hitting it head on.
5) Do I have to program the CDVI Krypto K1 and the credentials before they will work?
No programming step for the encryption. K1 DESFire EV2 readers paired with CDVI EV2 credentials work out of the box, because the CDVI protocol and encryption keys are factory-programmed into both. You still enroll the cards in the controller, but there is no key loading or reader configuration to get the encrypted channel running.
6) Is there a single-door option that puts the controller and reader in one unit at the door?
Yes - the Schlage Electronics CTE ENGAGE single door controller is a mobile-enabled multi-technology reader with the controller built into the same device, using a direct RS-485 connection. That suits a one-door opening where you do not want a separate panel. The CDVI Krypto K1 keeps the two apart: it is a reader on a secure RS-485 run back to an Atrium A22K controller, which is the arrangement you want when several doors report to one panel and you need CDVI end-to-end encryption between card, reader and controller.
7) What do I order if I need the door controller as well as the reader, not just the reader?
The CDVK1 Krypto is the reader side only - a 13.56 MHz MiFare Classic and DESFire EV1/EV2 reader on a secure RS-485 connection, made to work with the Atrium A22K controller. If the opening has no controller yet, the CDVI Americas A22KITSTB is an Atrium 2-door kit that pairs the A22 controller with 2-STARPB readers and 15 credentials, so it covers two doors of controller, reader and credentials in one order. Use the CDVK1 where an A22K is already installed and you are adding or replacing a reader head.
8) How close does the card have to be to the CDVI Krypto K1 reader?
Up to 2 inches (5 cm). That is a present-the-card range, not a hands-free one, so mount it where someone can reach it from the pull side without stepping off the approach, and don't expect it to read a card left in a wallet held at arm's length.
9) What power does the CDVI Krypto K1 reader need at the door?
12 VDC. On an Atrium install the reader is powered and communicates over the same secure RS-485 home run to the A22K, so plan a composite access cable back to the panel location rather than a local supply at the door.
