1) Do I have to order the Codelocks CL410 handed for a left or right hand door?
No handing to specify. The CL410 and CL415 are non handed and fit doors hung left or right, so one part number covers both swings. For a property manager stocking spares across a building that means a single item on the shelf instead of two.
2) What is the difference between the Codelocks CL410 and the CL415?
Code free is the only difference in the choice. The CL415 is the code free version, meaning it can be set so the outside lever opens without entering a code, useful for daytime free access on an office or classroom door that gets locked back down after hours. The CL410 is the non code free model and always requires the code on the outside lever.
3) Do I need a keypad on both sides of the door with the Codelocks CL410?
That is the back to back option, and it is a choice at order time. Ordered back to back, the CL400 gets a coded keypad on each face so entry is controlled from both directions, which is how you would do a server room or a stockroom with two ways in. Ordered without it, the inside lever always releases the latch freely for egress.
4) Is a mechanical keypad lock like the Codelocks CL410 the right choice, or should I use an electronic keypad lever?
The CL410 is fully mechanical, so there are no batteries, no wiring and nothing to fail when power drops, but it holds one code and re-coding means taking the lock off the door. If you need multiple user codes or want to change codes without pulling the lock, an electronic keypad leverset is the better tool, such as the Delaney LP250 electronic keypad leverlock or the Emtek Classic keypad leverset.
5) I want keypad entry but with an electronic lock instead of a mechanical one - what should I look at?
The CL410 and CL415 are mechanical push button locks with tumbler code change done off the door and a single stored code out of 8,191 combinations. If you would rather have an electronic keypad, the Delaney LP250 is an electronic keypad lever lock rated Grade 2, and the Emtek Classic Keypad Leverset is an electronic keypad lever in the Classic trim family. Electronic units need batteries and their codes are programmed at the keypad; the CL400 units hold their code in mechanical tumblers and draw no power at all.
6) The door does not need a code at all - what is the simpler lever to use instead of a CL415?
If nobody needs to be kept out, a plain passage lever does the same job of retracting a latch without any code. The Falcon B101 is a Grade 2 cylindrical passage lever lock in a medium duty build with a non-handed design, which matches the non-handed fit of the CL410 and CL415. For a heavier opening the Falcon K101 is a Grade 1 passage cylindrical lock, fire rated, covering doors 1-3/8 inch to 2-1/4 inch. Note that the CL415 code free option lets the lock be left free-turning by choice and put back on code later, which a passage lever cannot do.
7) My facility spec calls for an ANSI Grade 1 lever - what do I use in place of the CL410?
The CL410 and CL415 are medium duty mechanical code locks and are not written to an ANSI grade, so an opening whose drawing calls out Grade 1 needs a graded cylindrical lock. The Corbin Russwin CL3110 is a Grade 1 vandal resistant cylindrical lever in passage/closet function, fire rated, for doors 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch. The Dexter C1000 in entry/office function is Grade 1 for doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch, and the Design Hardware X75 is a Grade 1 passage lever for 1-3/4 inch doors. Those are keyed or non-keyed cylindrical locks rather than code entry, so credential handling changes with them.
8) Can I put a Codelocks CL410 on an exterior door that gets weather?
Yes, the CL410 and CL415 are rated for internal and external doors, and the marine grade black finish is the one to pick for coastal or exposed openings. Stainless steel is the other choice. Both finishes are offered on the CL410 and the CL415.
9) How many codes can a Codelocks CL410 hold, and can I change the code myself?
One code at a time. The CL400 stores a single code drawn from 8,191 non sequential combinations on a 14 button stainless keypad arranged 2 x 7. Changing it is done by tumblers with the lock off the door, so plan on pulling the lock for a code change rather than doing it in place. If you are turning over tenants or contractors often and need to re-code from the keypad, this is not the mechanism for that.
10) Is the Codelocks CL410 heavy duty enough for a school or hospital corridor door?

11) Does the Codelocks CL410 latch lock automatically when the door shuts?
Yes. The spring loaded latchbolt throws on close, so the door secures itself with no action from the user. Entering the correct code on the outside allows the outside lever to retract the latch. There is no deadbolt in this model, it is a latchbolt only lock.
12) I need a keyed storeroom lock on a warehouse door instead of a keypad - what is the equivalent?
