Codelocks CL510 BK MG – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Codelocks CL510 need a handed version for a left or right hung door?
No handing to specify. The lock is non handed and the lever will work on doors hung left or right, so property managers stocking several openings only need one part rather than a left and a right.
2) What is the difference between the back-to-back and single-sided Codelocks CL500 lock?
Back-to-back means a coded keypad on both faces of the door, so a correct code is required to enter from either direction. The non back-to-back build codes one side only and the other side is free egress by lever. Both are ordered from the same CL500 family, and the back-to-back option is a yes/no choice at order.
3) What does the Code Free (passage function) option do on the Codelocks CL500?
Code free lets you hold the lock in passage, so the lever retracts the latch without entering a code, then return it to coded operation when you want the door secured again. Useful in schools or offices where a room is open during the day and locked after hours. It is selected at order as Code Free (Passage Function) against the standard non code free build.
4) How do you change the code on a Codelocks CL510, and how many combinations are there?
Code changes are made by tumblers with the lock off the door, so the unit comes down for a recode rather than being reprogrammed at the keypad. It holds a single code at a time, chosen from 2,047 non sequential combinations across the 12 stainless steel buttons (2 x 6 layout). For a facility rotating codes frequently, factor the off-door step into your labor.
5) Can the Codelocks CL510 be used on an exterior door?
Yes, it is rated for internal and external doors and is built as a heavy duty commercial lock with a zinc alloy body and stainless steel keypad. Common uses are offices, schools, warehouses, hospitals, care homes and hotels.
6) Does the Codelocks CL510 latch automatically when the door shuts?
It does. The spring loaded latchbolt throws as the door closes, so the opening is secured without anyone having to set it. From outside, the lever only retracts the latch once a correct code has been entered.
7) Is the Codelocks CL515 back-to-back the same thing as putting a keypad deadbolt on the door?
No. The CL510 and CL515 are latchbolt locks - a heavy duty tubular mortise latch that springs shut when the door closes and is retracted by the lever after a correct code, with the back-to-back version adding a second coded keypad so both sides require a code. A product like the BEST 8T Series is a non-keyed tubular deadbolt in a blank plate by thumbturn arrangement, fitting 1-3/4 inch doors, which must be thrown deliberately and does not latch on closing or accept a code.
8) What finishes does the Codelocks CL510 keypad lock come in?
Two: stainless steel and black. Both are offered with or without the back-to-back keypad and with or without the code free passage option, so you can match the rest of the hardware on a floor without giving up a function.
9) I only need a lever on the inside face of the door with no code - is there a cheaper alternative to a second Codelocks unit?
If the inside face never needs to operate anything, a dummy lever trim such as the Kwikset Halifax with round rose, the Halifax with square rose, the Lisbon with square rose, or the Perth lever is a pull-only trim with no latch operation. The Codelocks CL510 and CL515 differ in that the outside lever actually retracts the latch once the code is entered, and a code free passage option is available if you want the lever to work without a code.
