No handing to specify. The CL5550 is non handed and fits doors hung left or right, so one part number covers both swings. For a property manager buying several at once for a building, that means no counting which way each door opens before ordering. Note the lock body mounts in a vertical orientation.
2) Is the Codelocks CL5550 fire rated for a 3 hour door?
The CL5550 carries a 3-hour UL 10C certification, but only when installed with a UL fire rated lock case. The keypad trim alone does not make the assembly rated, so if the opening is a rated door you have to pair it with the fire rated case. It is also ANSI Grade 2 and rated heavy duty.
3) What does the interchangeable core option on the Codelocks CL5550 actually get me?
Two build choices: with interchangeable core prep, or without. Choose the IC version if you want a key override cylinder that your locksmith can rekey or swap into your existing master key system without pulling the lock. The core and keys are not included with the IC version, so order the cylinder separately. If you are running code and smartphone access only and do not want a key path at all, take the non-IC version.
4) How do I give a contractor temporary access to a door without being on site?
That is what NetCode does on the CL5550. You generate a time-limited code through the C3 Smart app or the Codelocks Connect portal, and it works on the door for the window you set without you visiting or reprogramming anything. You can also set up to 10 Code Free access periods, where the door stays open on a schedule, useful for business hours or a scheduled trade visit. Codes are changed at the door via the keypad.
5) Does the Codelocks CL5550 need wiring or a hub to work?
No wiring and no gateway. It runs on 4 x AA batteries, good for about 10,000 operations, and management happens over personal wireless connectivity from a phone at the door. A red LED flashes on opening when the batteries are getting low, and there is a tamper time out if someone sits there trying codes. For an MRO or property team, that means no electrician and no network drop to add a door.
6) How many users and access codes can a Codelocks CL5550 hold for a multi-tenant building?
Memory holds 350 different clients in total, broken out as up to 100 client user codes, up to 100 smartphone clients, and up to 150 client smart cards. User codes are 4 digits, across three levels: Master, Sub Master, and Standard User. You can suspend and restore any or all clients, which is the practical tool when a tenant or contractor leaves and you do not want to reprogram the whole door.
7) Can a Codelocks CL5550 go on an exterior door?
Yes, it is rated for both internal and external use and built as a commercial, heavy duty lock. The housing is zinc alloy in a brushed steel finish. Brushed steel is the only finish offered, so if you are standardizing a building on a satin chrome or stainless look, this matches that family.
8) Can I key several Codelocks CL5550 locks alike across a property?
