Blackburn LCN30 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What wire size does the Blackburn LCN30 compression lug take?
The LCN30 is sized for 3/0 AWG copper conductor. It is a copper compression lug, so it goes on copper cable only, not aluminum. One lug per order, sold each.
2) Will the Blackburn LCN30 lug bolt to a 1/2 inch stud on my panel or bus bar?
Yes. The LCN30 has 1/2 inch bolt holes, so it lands on 1/2 inch studs or bolts. It is a two-hole tongue, which means both holes have to line up with the pad, so confirm the hole spacing on your bus bar matches before you crimp.
3) What does the orange color on this Blackburn lug mean?
Orange is the die color code for the crimp. The LCN30 barrel is marked orange so the installer knows which die set and die index to use in the compression tool. Match the tool die to the color, not to the cable size alone, and the crimp will certify.
4) Should I use a two-hole long barrel lug or a single-hole lug for a 3/0 feeder?
Two-hole tongues like the LCN30 are what you want where the connection can see vibration or torque on the cable, because the second bolt keeps the lug from rotating on the pad. A single-hole lug is fine on a small branch termination but will spin under load. The long barrel also gives you a two-crimp compression, which is the usual requirement on larger feeder conductors like 3/0.
5) Can I install the Blackburn LCN30 with a crimp tool, or does it set screw down?
It is a compression lug, not a mechanical set-screw connector. The barrel is crimped onto the conductor with a hydraulic or battery compression tool using the die matched to the orange code. If you need a connector you can install with a hex key, a mechanical lug is the other route.
6) Does the Blackburn LCN30 lug come with bolts, nuts or heat shrink?
No. The LCN30 ships as a single bare copper lug, sold each. Bolts, washers, nuts and any insulating boot or shrink sleeve for the barrel are ordered separately.
