OATEY 730GABN-6-1 Dearborn® 1-1/2" x 1-1/4" Sink Trap w/ Schedule 40 ABS Adapter, Ground Joint, Cover Tube & Escutcheon & Brass Nuts

The Dearborn 730GABN-6-1 is a 1-1/2 inch by 1-1/4 inch sink trap, so the trap body takes a 1-1/2 inch tailpiece/inlet and outlets at 1-1/4 inch. A polyethylene reducing washer is in the box, which is what lets the larger slip joint seal down to the smaller tube.

That is exactly what this one is built for. The 730GABN-6-1 ships with a Schedule 40 ABS adapter on the outlet side, so the brass trap mates to a plastic Schedule 40 ABS waste line without a separate transition fitting.

The body is 17 gauge brass, which is the heavier wall used on commercial and exposed work rather than the thin 20 or 22 gauge tubular sold for residential repair. Total weight is 1.8 lb. For school, hospital or multi-family lavatory work where the trap is exposed under the bowl and gets knocked, 17 gauge brass with brass nuts is the standardization choice.

You get the trap with its Schedule 40 ABS adapter, cover tube, escutcheon, one brass nut, one rubber washer and one polyethylene reducing washer. The tailpiece from the sink strainer and the strainer itself are separate items.

Ground joint means the trap's own union is machined metal-to-metal and sealed by the brass nut rather than a rubber slip washer, so it can be taken apart for rodding and put back without a new washer. Choose ground joint on exposed, frequently serviced traps; a plain slip joint trap is fine where the trap is hidden in a cabinet and rarely opened.

Yes, and that is the point of the cover tube and escutcheon. The escutcheon covers the rough opening at the wall and the cover tube hides the stub, so nothing unfinished shows on an exposed-plumbing lavatory. The finish is chrome.

The 730GABN-6-1 as supplied is chrome. Dearborn offers the trap in chrome or polished brass finish, so if the other fixtures in the room are brass you want the polished brass version rather than this one.
