Delta Breez SLM70ELED – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Delta Breez BreezSlim SLM70ELED fit where my old bath fan was without cutting the ceiling open?
The BreezSlim SLM70ELED housing is compact for retrofit and replacement of older bath fans, and it is a low profile design meant for tight ceiling cavities. Overall the unit measures 9-7/8 x 9-7/8 x 4 inches, with the grille sized 7 1/4 x 7 1/2 inches. Height is the number to check first: if you have 4 inches of clear depth above the ceiling between joists, it goes in. It is UL approved for ceiling mount installation.
2) What size duct does the SLM70ELED bath fan connect to?
Three inch round duct. That is smaller than the 4 inch duct most older bath fans use, so if you are replacing a 4 inch installation you will need a 4 to 3 inch reducer at the fan collar, or you re-run the duct in 3 inch. Worth settling before the truck rolls, because a 70 CFM fan choked onto the wrong transition will not move its rated air.
3) Is 70 CFM enough exhaust for my bathroom?
The SLM70ELED moves 70 CFM at full speed. The common rule of thumb for a residential bath is 1 CFM per square foot of floor area, so 70 CFM covers a bathroom up to roughly 70 square feet, which is most standard three quarter and full baths in an apartment or a single family home. Larger master baths with a separate enclosed toilet or a steam shower are typically sized higher or given a second fan.
4) Can I put the Delta Breez SLM70ELED on a dimmer switch?
The light dims, the fan does not. The 13 watt edge-lit LED is dimmable and puts out 850 lumens at 3000K, roughly a 60 watt incandescent. The dimmer switch itself is not included, so budget for one. The motor is a brushless DC motor and should be switched on and off, not run through the dimmer. In practice that means wiring the fan and the light on separate switch legs, with the dimmer on the light leg only.
5) Does the SLM70ELED meet California Title 24?
Yes, the BreezSlim SLM70ELED is California Title 24 compliant and ENERGY STAR qualified. For a spec writer or a GC working a California job, that pair covers the ventilation and the lighting side of the residential energy code on a bath fan with an integral light.
6) How loud is the BreezSlim SLM70ELED bath fan?
Rated 1.5 to 2.0 sones, with 2.0 sones at full speed. That is quiet enough for a hotel guest bath or a bedroom-adjacent bath in multi-family, where noise complaints are what actually generate the callback. The range reflects static pressure: the fan sits at the lower end on a short straight duct run and climbs toward 2.0 as the run gets longer and the elbows add up.
7) Is the SLM70ELED bright enough to be the only light in a small bathroom?
At 850 lumens and 3000K, the edge-lit grille is roughly a 60 watt incandescent in output and a warm-neutral white in color. That carries a powder room or a small three quarter bath on its own. In a full bath with a vanity you will still want dedicated task lighting at the mirror, because a ceiling-only source puts shadows on the face.
8) Which Delta Breez model is the 70 CFM slim fan with the LED light, and where are the install instructions?
The model is SLM70ELED, part of the Delta Breez BreezSlim collection, a 70 CFM ceiling fan with an edge-lit dimmable LED grille. Delta publishes both an installation manual and a family spec sheet for it, at zensupply.com/content/pdf/delta-breez/SLM70ELED_IM.pdf and zensupply.com/content/pdf/delta-breez/SLM_family_SpecSheet_e.pdf. That is the pair a distributor or a submittal package needs.
