Delta Breez RAD80LED – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Delta Breez Radiance RAD80LED heater fan run on the same circuit as my other bathroom lights?
No. The RAD80LED needs its own separate 15 amp circuit. The 1300 watt heating element is the reason: at 120V that draw alone eats most of a 15 amp branch, so it can't share with vanity lights or receptacles. Plan the rough-in with a dedicated home run from the panel. Unit runs on 120V/60Hz.
2) Will the RAD80LED housing fit between my ceiling joists?
The housing measures 14-3/8 x 8-1/4 x 5-1/2 inches, so the 8-1/4 inch dimension clears a 14-1/2 inch bay between joists on 16 inch centers. The 5-1/2 inch depth is what usually decides it: you need that much clear cavity above the ceiling, which rules out a 2x4 furred ceiling and means checking clearance in an attic with low-heel trusses.
3) Can the Delta Breez Radiance be surface mounted on a wall, or is it ceiling only?
Ceiling mount only. The RAD80LED is UL and cUL listed for ceiling mount installation, and installing it in a wall puts it outside that listing, which is a problem on any inspected commercial or multi-family job. For a wall location you need a fan specifically listed for wall mount.
4) Do I need a separate thermostat or timer to control the heater on the RAD80LED?
No separate thermostat is needed. The heater module has a built-in thermostat that cycles the element to hold temperature, plus a thermal cutoff fuse as a safety, and a metal guard over the heating wire to keep hands and insulation off it. You still wire switching for the fan, light and heater functions; the thermostat handles temperature regulation on its own.
5) Is the LED light in the Delta Breez RAD80LED dimmable, and does it need a special dimmer?
The main LED is a 13 watt dimmable unit and it ships with the fan, so there is no separate bulb or trim kit to order. Use an LED-rated (electronic low voltage or LED-compatible) dimmer on the light leg; a standard incandescent dimmer is the usual cause of flicker or buzz on an integrated LED module.
6) Is the Delta Breez RAD80LED Energy Star rated for a green building or rebate program?
Yes, the RAD80LED carries Energy Star. The numbers behind it: roughly 11.7 watts for the fan and about 7.0 CFM per watt of efficiency, driven by a brushless DC motor rather than a shaded-pole AC motor. Note the Energy Star efficiency applies to the ventilation function; the 1300 watt heater is resistance heat and is meant for intermittent use.
7) Should I buy a combination fan/light/heater or a plain exhaust fan for a bathroom remodel?
A combo like the RAD80LED puts ventilation, a dimmable LED and a 1300 watt heater into one 14-3/8 x 8-1/4 x 5-1/2 inch ceiling opening, which is the right call when you have one ceiling location and want warmth in a bath with no supply register nearby. The tradeoff is electrical: the heater forces a dedicated 15 amp circuit and more switch legs. If the room already heats well, a straight 80 CFM exhaust fan installs on a shared circuit with far less wiring.
8) How quiet is the Delta Breez Radiance heater fan for a hotel or apartment bathroom?
1.5 sones at 0.1 inches static pressure, which is quiet enough for guest rooms and multi-family units where noise complaints travel through the ceiling. Two things protect that number in the field: run full 4 inch duct with as few elbows as you can, and terminate through a proper roof or wall cap rather than dumping into the attic.
9) How long will a Delta Breez brushless DC bath fan motor last compared to a standard fan?
The RAD80LED uses a brushless DC motor, which Delta rates as outlasting typical AC motors by 2-1/2 times. For a property manager running fans hard in turnover units or continuous ventilation, that is the spec that matters more than airflow, since motor failure is what puts you back in the ceiling.
