1) Will the Design Hardware D1 Series deadbolt fit a 1-3/8 inch door?
No. The D1 Series deadbolt is built for 1-3/4 inch doors only, which is the standard commercial thickness. If you're working an older 1-3/8 inch interior or residential door, look at something with a thickness range instead: the Dexter DB1000 Series Grade 1 deadbolt covers 1-3/8 to 1-7/8 inches, and the Hager 3214 Grade 2 double cylinder covers 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inches.
2) Can I drop the D1 deadbolt into the existing bore on my door?
If the door is prepped to ANSI A115.2 with a 2-1/8 inch crossbore and a 2-3/4 inch backset, the D1 goes straight in. The strike is a 1-1/8 x 2-3/4 inch square corner, and the front is self adjusting for square or beveled door edges, so you don't need to specify bevel. Doors bored at 2-3/8 inch backset will need the hole relocated or a different lock.
3) What keyway does the Design Hardware D1 deadbolt come in, and can I key it to my existing system?
Conventional cylinders ship 6 pin brass in Schlage C keyway with two keys. If your building already runs Schlage C, these key into it. You can order keyed different (standard) or keyed alike when you want a run of doors on one key. 5) What double cylinder deadbolt should I use on a 1-3/8 inch door?
The Design Hardware D1 Series is dimensioned for 1-3/4 inch doors, so a thinner leaf needs a different bolt. Two double cylinder options reach down to 1-3/8 inch: the Dexter DB2000 Series double cylinder deadbolt, a Grade 2 lock covering 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch, and the Dexter DB1000 Series double cylinder, a Grade 1 lock covering 1-3/8 inch to 1-7/8 inch. 6) My egress code will not allow a double cylinder deadbolt. What single cylinder Grade 1 deadbolt takes its place?

They are not the same class of lock. The Design Hardware D1 Series is a bored deadbolt with a 2-3/4 inch backset for a 2-1/8 inch crossbore, keyed both sides. The Corbin Russwin DL3011 is a Grade 1 cylindrical deadlock in cylinder x blank function, meaning the inside face carries a blank plate rather than a second cylinder or a turn, and it covers 1-3/4 inch to 2-1/4 inch doors. The Corbin Russwin DL3211 is the same cylinder x blank arrangement fixed at 1-3/4 inch. Cylinder x blank gives no operation at all from the protected side, so it suits a stockroom or utility door where nobody should be locking or releasing from inside; it is not a swap for a bolt you need to work from both faces.
8) I need another Schlage C keyway deadbolt to key alike with the Design Hardware D1 Series. What else uses C keyway?

On a high traffic multi-family entry or a door that has already been attacked, that's what you want. 16) Can I key a run of D1 deadbolts alike across a building?
Yes. Keying is specified at order time: keyed different is standard, keyed alike is the option when you want one key to open multiple doors. Since the lock is non-handed, you can put the same part on every opening regardless of swing and keep one key. For a larger facility running masterkeying, the SFIC version lets your keyshop control the cores instead.
17) Is there a lower grade double cylinder deadbolt than the Design Hardware D1 Series?
Yes, at two steps down. The Delaney LU Series double cylinder deadbolt is Grade 2. The Callan Model 210S double cylinder deadbolt and the Deltana 7312KA2 double cylinder deadbolt are both Grade 3, with the Deltana 7312KA2 covering doors from 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch. The Design Hardware D1 Series is Grade 1 and rated extra heavy duty, which is what a door schedule specifying ANSI A156.2 Grade 1 requires; the Grade 2 and Grade 3 bolts above are cataloged against lower cycle and strength thresholds and would not satisfy a Grade 1 call-out.
18) What do I use instead of a keyed deadbolt on an exit-only door?
The Design Hardware D1 Series is keyed on both faces, which is more control than an exit-only opening usually needs.
