1) Will the Design Hardware X75 passage lever fit a 1-3/8 inch door, or only 1-3/4?
The X75 passage lever comes factory set for 1-3/4 inch doors. On a 1-3/8 inch door it needs shims, and the chassis can be adjusted out to 2 inches thick. So it covers the common commercial 1-3/4 leaf straight out of the box, and older 1-3/8 interior doors with the shim kit.
2) Does the Design Hardware X75 drop into an existing 2-1/8 inch cylindrical prep?
Yes, if that prep is standard ANSI A115.2: 2-1/8 inch crossbore with two 3/8 inch thru-bolt holes. The X75 is built to that prep. Standard backset is 2-3/4 inches with a 1-1/8 x 2-1/4 inch latchface; a 2-3/8 inch backset version is available with a 1 x 2-1/4 inch latchface. Both fronts are self adjusting for square or beveled edge doors, so you do not need to know which edge prep you have before ordering.
3) Will the X75 lever latch into the strike already in my frame?
The X75 ships against a 4-7/8 x 1-1/4 inch ASA square corner strike, which is the standard commercial frame cutout, and the stainless steel latchbolt throws 1/2 inch. If your frame already has an ASA strike of that size, it lands. T strikes and full lip strikes are available if your frame is prepped differently.
4) Is the X75 handed, or can one lockset go on any door?
Non-handed and completely reversible in the flat lever design, so one lockset covers left and right hand openings. That matters if you are stocking spares across a building. The exception is the S-A and S-B lever styles, which are handed.
5) Does the X75 lever lock, or is it always free?
The X75 is a passage function, non-keyed. There is no cylinder and no button; the lever retracts the latch from both sides at all times. Use it for corridors, halls and closets. If you need the door to lock, look at a keyed function in the X series instead, or a Grade 1 keyed cylindrical like the Corbin Russwin CL33903 for electrified openings.
6) Is the X75 passage lever ADA compliant for a public corridor?
The X series meets ADA and ANSI A117.1 accessibility codes. The lever itself is a 5 inch solid zinc diecast lever on a 3-3/8 inch wrought brass rose, operable without grasping or twisting.
7) What is the difference between the Design Hardware X75 and a Grade 2 passage lever like the Falcon B101?
Grade is the split. The X75 is Grade 1 to ANSI A156.2 Series 4000, with a steel zinc dichromated chassis and an anti-sag mechanism using independent lever return springs. The Falcon B101 is a Grade 2, medium duty non-handed passage lever. For a school corridor or a multi-family common area that sees constant traffic, Grade 1 is the spec. For a low-traffic interior office door, Grade 2 is often enough. If you want Grade 1 from another line, the Falcon K101 and the Corbin Russwin CL3110 are both Grade 1 passage cylindricals.
8) Do I need separate screws for a hollow metal door versus a wood door with the X75?
No. The X75 ships with combination screws that work for wood or metal doors and frames, so one part number covers both. The chassis is steel, zinc dichromated for corrosion resistance.
9) I need a matching dummy lever for the inactive leaf of a pair. Does Design Hardware make one in the X series?
The X75 is the passage function only, so for the inactive leaf you need a dummy trim. Grade 1 dummy options we carry include the BEST 9K Series 1DT single dummy trim and the Accentra 455LN Augusta, both non-keyed Grade 1 heavy duty. The trim will not visually match the X series flat lever, so if appearance across the pair matters, specify the dummy from the same X series family when ordering.
10) What finishes does the Design Hardware X75 flat lever come in?
Two finishes are stocked on the X75 flat lever: 613 dark bronze and 626 satin chrome. Satin chrome is the usual match for commercial openings already running 26D hardware, dark bronze for oil-rubbed and darker schemes. Across the X series the standard finish range is US3 PVD, US4, US10B, US15, US26 PVD and US26D, with the PVD finishes being lifetime finishes.
11) Can I get the X75 lever in a different lever shape to match the rest of the building?
The X series lever designs are Flat, Curved, Half Curved, S-A and S-B. The X75 as listed is the Flat lever. Keep in mind the S-A and S-B styles are handed, while Flat is fully reversible. There is also a marine grade 316 stainless steel lever and rose cover upgrade for coastal or pool-area openings.
