1) Will the Don-Jo 14-CW cover the holes left in the door after I pull off a Simplex 1000 pushbutton lock?
That is what the 14-CW is built for. It is a wrap around plate that goes over the face of the door where a Simplex 1000 or Alarm Lock Trilogy keypad was mounted, and it comes bored for a key-in-knob lockset: a 2-1/8 inch cross bore on a 2-3/4 inch backset, plus a latch prep indent so the plate sits flat over the existing latch prep. The plate covers 5-1/8 inches wide by 14 inches tall of door face, which is what lets it hide the taller footprint the keypad chassis left behind.
2) Does the Don-Jo 14-CW fit a 1-3/8 inch door?
No. The 14-CW is made for 1-3/4 inch doors, the standard commercial thickness. A wrap around plate folds over the edge of the door, so the fold spacing is thickness specific: on a 1-3/8 inch door the legs sit proud of the face and the plate will not pull tight. Interior wood doors in older buildings are commonly 1-3/8 inches, so check the slab thickness rather than assuming, and use a wrap around made for 1-3/8 inch stock if that is what you have.
3) After I take the keypad off, what lock do I put back on with the 14-CW wrap around plate?
A key-in-knob lockset. The 14-CW is punched with a 2-1/8 inch cross bore, which is the standard bore for cylindrical key-in-knob and lever hardware, on a 2-3/4 inch backset, and it has a latch prep indent so the plate clears the latch face already mortised into the door edge. The plate itself is just the steel wrap; the lockset, latch and strike are separate. Any commercial cylindrical lock prepped for a 2-1/8 inch bore on a 2-3/4 inch backset in a 1-3/4 inch door works with it.
4) Can I use a Don-Jo 14-CW wrap around to cover damage around an existing knob lock, or is it only for keypad conversions?
Keypad conversion is what it is cut for, but the plate does not know what came off the door. Anything with a 2-1/8 inch bore on a 2-3/4 inch backset in a 1-3/4 inch door will take it, and the 5-1/8 by 14 inch face covers scarring, old mounting holes and mismatched paint around the lock. Two limits decide it: any damage outside that 5-1/8 by 14 inch footprint stays visible, and holes falling inside the plate but not on the 2-1/8 inch bore or the latch indent get covered rather than reused.
5) Will a Don-Jo 14-CW wrap around plate fit a narrow stile aluminum storefront door?
No. The plate is 5-1/8 inches wide and has to lie flat on the door face and fold around the edge, so it needs at least that much flat stile to sit on. Narrow stile aluminum entrances do not have that much face at the lock, so the plate would run past the stile onto the glass stop. It is a plate for flush commercial doors, wood or hollow metal, at 1-3/4 inches thick. For an aluminum storefront you want hardware sized to the stile instead.
6) What finishes does the Don-Jo 14-CW wrap around come in, and can I match it to the hardware already on my other doors?
Five finishes: 10B oil rubbed bronze, AB antique brass, BZ satin bronze, PB polished brass, and S satin stainless. Three of those carry the BHMA numbers a spec writer will recognize, 613 for the 10B, 605 for the PB and 630 for the S, so if the existing levers or closers on the building are called out by BHMA number you can match straight across. Satin stainless (630) is the usual choice on commercial openings where the rest of the hardware is brushed.
7) Is the Don-Jo 14-CW a complete lock, or just the plate?
Just the plate. The 14-CW is a formed steel wrap around, 22-gauge (.032), that wraps the door face and edge and gives you a bored, finished surface where the old Simplex 1000 or Alarm Lock Trilogy keypad used to be. There is no chassis, latch or cylinder with it, so order the key-in-knob lockset separately, along with a strike if the old one does not suit the new latch.
8) Is 22-gauge steel heavy enough for a wrap around on a high traffic entrance?
22-gauge works out to .032 inch steel, which is the standard weight for commercial wrap around plates and is what the 14-CW is formed from. It is a cover and reinforcement over the door face, not a structural part of the lock, so it takes the scuffing and cart traffic rather than the latching load.
