Don-Jo 28-PB-CW – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What lock is the Don-Jo 28-CW wrap around plate cut for?
It is prepped for the Securitron Sable electronic lock. The plate carries a pre-cut hole for the electronic lock body and wiring, plus a formed latch prep indent, so you are not drilling or filing in the field to make the Sable land correctly. If you are installing a different electronic lock, the hole pattern won't line up.
2) Can I use a wrap around plate to cover damage from an old lock when upgrading to electronic access control?
That is exactly what the 28-CW does. When you pull a cylindrical lockset off a 1-3/4 inch door and put a Securitron Sable on it, the old prep rarely matches. The 22-gauge steel plate wraps the door edge and covers 5-1/8 by 15 inches of the face, conceals the leftover holes, and carries the hole and latch indent the Sable needs. It saves replacing the door leaf.
3) Which finishes does the Don-Jo 28-CW come in?
Two finishes to order: PB polished brass (605) and S satin stainless (630). Satin stainless is the usual pick when the rest of the openings in a commercial building are 630 lever trim and push plates; polished brass suits older brass hardware sets.
4) Does the 28-CW come with screws or the lock itself?
The plate is sold on its own, one per shelf pack. The Securitron Sable lock is a separate purchase, and so is any strike or mounting hardware you need to finish the opening. Order the lock and the plate together so the prep matches on the first trip.
5) Is the 28-CW handed, and do I need to specify left or right?
There is no handing choice on the 28-CW, only finish. The latch prep indent and the lock hole are formed into the plate, so you install it in the orientation the prep dictates. Verify the indent lines up with your latch position before you set the fasteners.
6) Is the Don-Jo 28-CW heavy enough for a high traffic door?
It is a commercial-grade part in 22-gauge (.032) steel, which is the standard wrap around gauge for schools, healthcare corridors and multi-tenant entries. It is a trim and cover plate, not a reinforcement, so it protects appearance and hides prep rather than adding strength to the door edge.
