Don-Jo 93KV-S-CW – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What lock does the Don-Jo 93KV-CW wrap around plate line up with?
It is cut for Best 93KV locks. The prep includes an electronic lock hole and an indent latch prep, so it suits electrified 93KV configurations used on access control openings. If your lock is a different series or a different backset than 2-3/4 inches, the holes will not register and you need a wrap with matching prep.
2) How big is the Don-Jo 93KV-CW plate and will it cover damage around an existing lock cutout?
The plate measures 5-1/2 inches by 12-3/4 inches. That footprint wraps the lock area of the door and hides chewed-up edges, old filled holes, or scarred face material around a 93KV lock prep. Damage outside that 5-1/2 by 12-3/4 inch area stays exposed.
3) Can I use this wrap around plate to hide a lock swap on a damaged door instead of replacing the door?
That is the main reason property managers buy it. Rather than pulling a beat-up 1-3/4 inch door, the wrap folds over the lock edge and presents a clean face on both sides around the 93KV prep. With the electronic lock hole already cut, it also works when you are moving an opening from a mechanical to an electrified 93KV lock and the old holes need covering.
4) What is an indent latch prep on a wrap around plate and why does it matter?
The indent is a recess formed at the door edge so the latch face and faceplate sit down into the plate rather than on top of it. Without it, the added steel packs the latch out and throws off strike alignment. The 93KV-CW has that indent formed in, so the latch seats and the door closes to the existing strike.
5) Is 22-gauge steel heavy enough for a school or hospital corridor door?
The 93KV-CW is 22-gauge (.032) steel with a 630 satin stainless finish, and Don-Jo rates it commercial. That is the working gauge for wrap arounds used in offices, schools, healthcare, retail, and multi-tenant buildings. It reinforces and covers the lock area; it is not an armor plate for forced-entry resistance.
6) What finish does the Don-Jo 93KV-CW come in, and will it match other stainless hardware on the opening?
One finish only: satin stainless steel, BHMA 630. That is the standard commercial stainless finish, so it sits alongside 630 levers, hinges, and push plates without looking off. If your building is standardized on 626 satin chrome the tone will read slightly different in daylight.
