The 9000 Series heavy-duty exit device provides superior durability while the smooth reduced projection touchbar assembly minimizes catch hazards.

For paired doors where a full-width opening is only occasionally required, removable mullions are used. Doors are fitted with rim exit devices and normally function as single doors. Steel and aluminum mullions are available in 8' or 10' lengths.

Motorized Latch Retraction

The MLR feature retracts the latch using a whisper quiet motor, drawing in the touch bar, thus retracting the latch. The device can be activated by a variety of credentials and also has the ability to electrically hold/dog the exit push bar in a retracted position during non-secure hours.

1) Is the DORMA F9300 fire rated, and can I dog it open during the day?
Fire rated, yes, and that is exactly why you cannot dog it. Hex key dogging is standard on the panic (non-fire) 9000 models only; the fire rated F-prefix models have no dogging at all. If you need the bar held retracted for daytime traffic on this opening, the motorized latch retraction (MLR) option is the route, since it electrically holds the touch bar retracted during non-secure hours. Mechanical dogging on a fire door is not an option on any brand.
2) What door thickness does the DORMA 9300 exit device fit?
1-3/4 to 2-1/4 inches covers it, device and trim both. That takes in standard commercial 1-3/4 inch hollow metal as well as the thicker aluminum and storefront leaves. Anything over 2-1/4 inches is outside the standard build and has to go through DORMA Technical Service.
3) Do I need to order a left hand or right hand DORMA 9300?
Neither. The 9300 rim device is non-handed, so one part number covers both leaves. That is the practical reason to stock it in a building with mixed openings, you are not tracking handing across the order.
4) Can I put a lever or pull on the outside of the DORMA F9300?
Not as configured. This one is exit only, meaning there is no outside trim, so the door is push-to-exit from the inside and has no operating trim on the pull side. If you need entry from outside with a key or lever, you need a trim-accepting version of the 9000 Series instead. DORMA does offer free wheeling lever trim across the series in a range of architectural finishes.
5) Is a concealed vertical rod device an alternative to the DORMA 9300 rim device on a pair of doors?
They solve the pair differently. The 9000 Series approach for pairs is rim devices on both leaves with a removable steel or aluminum mullion in 8 foot or 10 foot lengths, so the doors work as singles day to day. A concealed vertical rod device latches top and bottom in the frame and header with no mullion in the opening: the Hager 4501 Series is a 36 inch Grade 1 concealed vertical rod device with a wide stile pushpad and the 4601 Series is the 36 inch narrow stile version. Both Hager rod devices are non fire rated.
6) What should I use instead of the DORMA 9300 if the door has a narrow aluminum stile?
The 9300 in the 30 inch size uses a wide stile chassis, which needs the rail width to suit. For a narrow stile leaf, the Corbin Russwin ED4200 is a 36 inch Grade 1 narrow stile rim device for 1-3/4 inch doors, the Falcon 19-R is a 36 inch Grade 1 narrow stile exit only device, and the TownSteel ED3700 and ED8900 are both 36 inch heavy duty Grade 1 narrow stile rim devices. All four are non fire rated, so a labeled opening changes the answer.
7) Is the Cal-Royal A9800 an equivalent to the DORMA 9300 exit device?
Not on grade. The Cal-Royal A9800 Series 36 inch exit only device and the A9820 in 48 inch are both catalogued at Grade 2, where the DORMA 9300 is Grade 1. Both Cal-Royal devices are non fire rated and built for metal doors. The Cal-Royal 5000 in 36 inch touch bar and the 5500 in 48 inch push bar are also Grade 2 heavy duty non fire rated devices. If a spec calls out ANSI Grade 1 on a labeled opening, none of the Cal-Royal devices meet it.
8) Which rim exit device gives motorized or electric latch retraction like the DORMA 9000 Series MLR option?
The 9000 Series offers motorized latch retraction that draws the touch bar in and can electrically hold the bar dogged during open hours. Among other electrified rim devices, the Sargent 12-8810-LTRIM is a fire rated wide stile device supplied with request to exit and motor electric latch retraction. The SDC Spectra S6136 is a 36 inch electrified architectural rim device with a 4 inch wide stile for doors 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch, and the Securitron EMB is an electromechanical exit bar for 2-1/4 inch doors. The SDC and Securitron units are not fire rated, so the Sargent is the one that stays on a labeled opening.
9) I need dogging on the exit device. Which alternatives to the fire rated DORMA 9300 offer it?
Hex key dogging is standard on the panic models of the 9000 Series and is not present on the fire rated models, which is standard practice for a labeled opening.
