DORMA 9000 Series Exit Device
Heavy Duty Exit Device

The 9000 Series heavy-duty exit device provides superior durability while the smooth reduced projection touchbar assembly minimizes catch hazards.

For paired doors where a full-width opening is only occasionally required, removable mullions are used. Doors are fitted with rim exit devices and normally function as single doors. Steel and aluminum mullions are available in 8' or 10' lengths.

Available motorized latch retraction (MLR).

  • Heavy duty cast chassis, available in wide or narrow stile
  • Antimicrobial protected coating
  • Motorized latch retraction (MLR) available
  • Complies with NFPA life safety code and AD
  • CBC-compliant option (BF) for maximum 5 lb operating force (9300, 9500, 9700)
  • The Motorized latch retraction features a whisper-quiet motor and operates quietly

Features
Available Finishes

The 9000 Series is available in architectural finishes as well as powder coated finishes. A full complement of free wheeling lever trim is available in a wide range of architectural finishes.

Applications

This premium exit device is built for high impact applications such as schools, universities and other institutional or commercial buildings.

DORMA Solutions

All standard devices and trim are designed for 1-3/4”- 2-1/4” thick doors. For door thickness greater than 2-1/4”, consult DORMA Technical Service.

Motorized Latch Retraction

The MLR feature retracts the latch using a whisper quiet motor, drawing in the touch bar, thus retracting the latch. The device can be activated by a variety of credentials and also has the ability to electrically hold/dog the exit push bar in a retracted position during non-secure hours.

Dormakaba F9300A 626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Why is there no dogging on the fire rated DORMA F9300?
Fire rated models ship without dogging, by design. Hex key dogging is standard only on the non-fire panic versions, because holding the latch retracted on a fire door would defeat the labeled assembly. If you need the bar held in during business hours on a fire door, the MLR (motorized latch retraction) option does it electrically and drops the latch back on alarm or power loss.
2) What door thickness does the DORMA 9300 rim exit device fit?
Standard 9300 devices and trim cover 1-3/4 inch through 2-1/4 inch doors, so both a typical commercial 1-3/4 inch leaf and a thicker hurricane or acoustic door are handled without a special order. Above 2-1/4 inches DORMA Technical Service has to be consulted.
3) Will the DORMA F9300 work on a pair of doors without a mullion?
A rim device latches into a strike on the frame or mullion, so a pair of doors needs a removable mullion with a rim device on each leaf. DORMA offers steel and aluminum removable mullions in 8 foot and 10 foot lengths, which lets the pair function as single doors day to day and open full width when you pull the mullion. If you cannot use a mullion at all, a vertical rod device is the other route, such as the Hager 4501 Series concealed vertical rod.
4) Does the DORMA F9300 come with a strike, and what fasteners are included?
The 463 strike is standard with the device. Wood and machine screws come standard, and because this is the fire rated build it also ships with sex nuts and bolts (SNB), which is what a labeled opening generally requires for through-bolted mounting.
5) Can someone get back in through a door with the F9300 installed?
Not without additional trim. This configuration is exit only, meaning it releases from the inside and there is no outside lever or cylinder to re-enter. DORMA offers free wheeling lever trim across the 9000 Series in a range of architectural finishes, and that has to be ordered separately if you need outside access.
6) Do I need to order handing for the DORMA 9300 exit device?
No handing to specify. The 9300 is non-handed, so one device covers left and right hand openings, which is what you want when you are stocking spares across a building.
7) What options should I add to a DORMA 9300 for a hospital or a barrier free opening?
Two matter most. AM adds the antimicrobial coating, which is the usual call in healthcare and food service. BF is the barrier free version for a maximum 5 lb operating force, the CBC-compliant option. Other add-ons are TX security screws, SNB sex nuts, HC for hurricane applications (includes SNB), and MLR for motorized latch retraction.
8) How do I tie a DORMA 9300 exit device into an access control system?
Specify MLR, motorized latch retraction. A quiet motor pulls the touch bar in and retracts the latch, and it can be triggered from whatever credential reader you are running. It also lets you electrically hold the bar retracted during unsecured hours instead of mechanically dogging, which is the only way to do it on a fire rated leaf.
9) Wide stile or narrow stile rim device, which one do I need?
Match it to the door. The DORMA 9300 is wide stile, which suits hollow metal and wide stile aluminum leaves where there is room for the full chassis. A narrow stile aluminum storefront door does not have that stile width, and you would go to something like the TownSteel ED3700 or the Corbin Russwin ED4200, both Grade 1 narrow stile rim devices.
10) What is the difference between the DORMA F9300 and the Dexter ED1000 fire rated rim device?
Both are Grade 1 fire rated rim exit devices for non-wood doors. The DORMA F9300 is specified as wide stile at 48 inches, heavy duty, non-handed, for 1-3/4 inch to 2-1/4 inch doors, with options including motorized latch retraction, antimicrobial coating, sex nuts and a barrier free build for 5 lb operating force. The Dexter ED1000-R-F-EO is catalogued as a Grade 1 fire rated rim device, exit only, without those listed option codes.
11) I need electrified exit hardware on a 48 inch opening - is the DORMA F9300 MLR the only route?
The DORMA F9300 can be ordered with MLR motorized latch retraction, which draws the touch bar in and can electrically hold the bar retracted during non-secure hours. Other electrified approaches in the same family include the SDC S6136 Spectra, a 36 inch electrified wide stile rim device for 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch doors, the SDC PSB560 pressure sense bar at 36 inches for narrow or wide stile, and the Securitron EMB electromechanical exit bar for 2-1/4 inch doors. Those three are not fire rated in their specs, while the F9300 is.
12) Is a crossbar device like the Corbin Russwin ED3200 interchangeable with the DORMA F9300 touchbar?
They are not the same actuator. The DORMA F9300 uses a reduced projection touchbar assembly intended to minimize catch hazards, while the Corbin Russwin ED3200 is a Grade 1 wide stile crossbar rim device and the CRL Jackson 1095 at 48 inches is likewise crossbar. If a facility is standardizing on one push style across a fleet, the touchbar and crossbar builds will not look or feel alike even on the same door width.
13) What finishes does the DORMA 9300 rim exit device come in?
Fifteen finishes, spanning architectural and powder coated: 605 bright brass, 606 and 696 satin brass, 611 bright bronze, 612 satin bronze, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 619 satin nickel, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome, 629 bright stainless, 630 satin stainless, 689 anodized aluminum, 691 light bronze, 693 black, and 695 dark bronze. That covers matching an existing run of openings in most buildings.
14) Is the DORMA 9300 touchbar or crossbar style?
Touchbar. The 9000 Series uses a reduced projection touchbar assembly, which cuts down on catching sleeves, carts, and backpacks in a school corridor. If the spec calls out a crossbar instead, the Corbin Russwin ED3000 Series 48 inch and the CRL Jackson 1095 Series 48 inch are crossbar rim devices, though neither is fire rated.
