Applications

This premium exit device is built for high impact applications such as schools, universities and other institutional or commercial buildings.

DORMA Solutions

All standard devices and trim are designed for 1-3/4”- 2-1/4” thick doors. For door thickness greater than 2-1/4”, consult DORMA Technical Service.

Motorized Latch Retraction

The MLR feature retracts the latch using a whisper quiet motor, drawing in the touch bar, thus retracting the latch. The device can be activated by a variety of credentials and also has the ability to electrically hold/dog the exit push bar in a retracted position during non-secure hours.

Dormakaba F9700CC 626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the DORMA F9700CC fire rated, and can it be dogged down?
It is fire rated, and that is exactly why it cannot be dogged. Hex key dogging is standard on the panic (non-fire) models in the 9000 Series, but fire rated devices ship with no dogging. If you need a door you can hold in a push-through state during business hours, either use a non-fire 9700 with dogging or spec the motorized latch retraction, which can electrically hold the touch bar retracted during non-secure hours.
2) Does the F9700CC come with an outside lever or pull, or is it exit only?
Exit only. The F9700CC is push bar in, no outside trim, so once the door shuts there is no keyed or lever entry from the exterior. If the opening needs outside access you will need to move to a version that accepts trim; DORMA offers free wheeling lever trim across the 9000 Series in a range of architectural finishes.
3) How do I secure a pair of doors with these rim devices and still get a clear opening when I need it?
Rim devices latch into the frame, so a pair of doors needs something in the middle to latch against. DORMA's approach is a removable mullion: fit each leaf with a 9000 Series rim device, run the doors as singles day to day, and pull the mullion when you need the full width. Steel and aluminum mullions come in 8 foot and 10 foot lengths. If you can never have a mullion in the opening, a vertical rod device is the other route.
4) What is the difference between a fire rated DORMA F9700CC and a regular panic 9700?
The fire rated F version has no dogging and ships with the 463 rim strike plus sex nuts and bolts. The standard panic version gets hex key dogging and the 430 strike. On a fire rated opening you cannot legally hold the latch retracted mechanically, so if the door is in a rated wall the F device is the only correct choice. Both are Grade 1 heavy duty.
5) What is the closest fire rated narrow stile rim exit device to the DORMA F9700CC 30 inch?
The Adams Rite 3700 Series 30 inch is the nearest match: it is a fire rated, Grade 1, narrow stile rim exit device in the same 30 inch size. The DORMA F9700CC is also fire rated, Grade 1 and narrow stile at 30 inches. One difference that matters on the order: the Adams Rite 3700 is listed as wood door compatible, while the DORMA F9700CC is not, so on a hollow metal or aluminum opening either works, and on a wood fire door the Adams Rite 3700 is the one to specify.
6) Which narrow stile rim exit device should be used if the opening is not a fire door?
The DORMA F9700CC is a fire rated device, and fire rated models carry no dogging - hex key dogging is standard only on the panic models. On a non-fire opening where hold-open during business hours is wanted, non-rated narrow stile Grade 1 rim devices include the Adams Rite 8700 Series 30 inch, the Adams Rite 8800 Series 30 inch, the Corbin Russwin ED4200 at 36 inches, and the TownSteel ED3700 and ED8900 at 36 inches. The Adams Rite 8700 is listed as wood door compatible; the 8800, ED4200, ED3700 and ED8900 are not.
7) What strike comes with the DORMA F9700CC fire rated rim device?
Fire rated and hurricane rated 9000 Series devices include the 463 rim strike as standard. The 430 strike is the standard on the non-fire panic versions. Worth knowing before you order, because the frame prep follows the strike.
8) Do I need to worry about handing when I order the DORMA 9700 exit device?
No handing to specify. The 9700 rim device is non-handed, so one part number covers left and right hand openings. That makes it easier to stock a spare on the shelf for a building with doors swinging both ways.
9) What fasteners and mounting hardware ship with the fire rated 9700?
Wood and machine screws are standard across the 9000 Series, and sex nuts and bolts (SNB) are included as standard on fire rated and hurricane rated devices. SNB is what you want on a fire door anyway, since it clamps through the leaf. Security screws (TX) are available if the opening is exposed to tampering.
10) Can I use the DORMA 9700 with a card reader or access control?
Yes, through the motorized latch retraction option. MLR retracts the latch by drawing the touch bar in, and it can be triggered by a range of credentials, so it ties into card readers and other access control. The motor is quiet, which matters on lobby and corridor doors. It also lets you electrically hold the bar retracted during open hours, which is how you get dogging behavior on a fire rated opening.
11) Is the Arrow FS1250 a substitute for the DORMA F9700CC 30 inch?
Both are fire rated rim exit devices, but the sizes differ: the Arrow FS1250 is a 32 inch device rated for 1-3/4 inch doors, while the DORMA F9700CC is 30 inches and covers 1-3/4 inch through 2-1/4 inch doors. The DORMA is stated as narrow stile and Grade 1. Match device length to your door width before swapping.
12) Are the SDC switch bars an alternative to the DORMA F9700CC on a fire door?
No. The SDC MSB550 and SDC SureExit PSB560 36 inch bars are non-fire-rated and work with electromagnetic lock release rather than a mechanical latch, so they do not replace a fire rated latching rim device. The DORMA F9700CC is fire rated and ships with the 463 rim strike on fire and hurricane rated devices. If you need an electrified option in the DORMA family, motorized latch retraction is offered on the 9000 Series.
13) Is the Sargent 8504 nightlatch a substitute for the DORMA F9700CC exit only device?
They serve different functions. The Sargent 8504 is a narrow design rim device in nightlatch function, meaning outside key access through trim. The DORMA F9700CC is exit only, with no outside trim function. If the opening needs key entry from outside, a nightlatch device such as the 8504 is the correct family; if the door only needs to be egress and secure from outside, the exit only F9700CC covers it.
14) If the opening needs concealed vertical rods rather than a rim device, what takes the place of the DORMA F9700CC?
The F9700CC is a rim device, which latches to a strike on the frame or mullion. For a concealed vertical rod application, Hager offers the 4601 Series 36 inch narrow stile CVR device and the 4501 Series 36 inch wide stile pushpad CVR device, both Grade 1. Note both Hager CVR devices are non-fire-rated, so a labeled opening needs a rated device instead.
15) What finishes does the DORMA 9700 rim device come in?
Fifteen, spanning architectural plated and powder coated: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 611 bright bronze, 612 satin bronze, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 619 satin nickel, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome, 629 bright stainless, 630 satin stainless, 689 aluminum, 691 light bronze, 693 black, 695 dark bronze and 696 satin brass. For a building standardizing on dark bronze storefront, 695 and 691 are the usual matches.
16) Is the 30-inch DORMA 9700 suitable for a high traffic school or university door?
That is the intended application. The 9000 Series is a Grade 1 heavy duty device on a cast chassis, built for high impact use in schools, universities and other institutional and commercial buildings. The touch bar has a reduced projection to cut down on snagging in busy corridors. The 30 inch size suits narrower leaves; size the device to the door width.
