DORMA 9000 Series Exit Device
Heavy Duty Exit Device

The 9000 Series heavy-duty exit device provides superior durability while the smooth reduced projection touchbar assembly minimizes catch hazards.

Available motorized latch retraction (MLR).

  • Heavy duty cast chassis, available in wide or narrow stile
  • Antimicrobial protected coating
  • Motorized latch retraction (MLR) available
  • Complies with NFPA life safety code and AD
  • CBC-compliant option (BF) for maximum 5 lb operating force (9300, 9500, 9700)
  • The Motorized latch retraction features a whisper-quiet motor and operates quietly

Applications

This premium exit device is built for high impact applications such as schools, universities and other institutional or commercial buildings.

DORMA Solutions

All standard devices and trim are designed for 1-3/4”- 2-1/4” thick doors. For door thickness greater than 2-1/4”, consult DORMA Technical Service.

Motorized Latch Retraction

The MLR feature retracts the latch using a whisper quiet motor, drawing in the touch bar, thus retracting the latch. The device can be activated by a variety of credentials and also has the ability to electrically hold/dog the exit push bar in a retracted position during non-secure hours.

Dormakaba F9700BB 630 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can I dog the DORMA F9700BB exit device open during business hours?
No. The F9700 is a fire rated device, and mechanical dogging is not available on fire rated models in the DORMA 9000 Series. Hex key dogging is standard only on the panic (non-fire) versions, and the cylinder dogging option (CD, with an SC keyway cylinder keyed different to a random combination) is a panic-model option. If you need the door held unlatched during open hours on a fire opening, the MLR motorized latch retraction option is the route: it retracts the latch electrically and can hold the push bar retracted during non-secure hours.
2) Can I put the DORMA F9700 on a wood fire door?
No. The F9700 narrow stile rim device is not rated for wood door application. For a wood fire door leaf, look at a fire rated rim device that lists wood door compatibility, such as the Adams Rite 3700 Series narrow stile fire rated rim device, which is listed as wood door compatible.
3) How do I secure a pair of doors if both leaves get DORMA 9700 rim devices?
Rim devices latch into a strike, so a pair needs something for both leaves to latch against. DORMA's approach is a removable mullion: both leaves get rim exit devices and work as single doors day to day, and the mullion comes out when you need the full clear opening. Steel and aluminum mullions come in 8 foot and 10 foot lengths. Order the mullion separately, it is not part of the device.
4) I need access control on a fire rated exit door. What do I order with the DORMA 9700?
Specify the MLR motorized latch retraction option. It uses a quiet motor to draw the touch bar in and retract the latch, can be triggered by a range of credentials, and can electrically hold the bar retracted during non-secure hours. On a fire rated device this is how you get remote release, since mechanical dogging is not available on fire rated models.
5) Can I use a wide stile rim device instead of the DORMA F9700BB on an aluminum storefront door?
Not interchangeably. The DORMA F9700 chassis is the narrow stile build, sized for the narrow vertical rail on a glass front door. Devices such as the Corbin Russwin ED5200, the Von Duprin 22 and the TownSteel ED9700 are all 36 inch Grade 1 rim devices but are wide stile, which needs the broader rail found on hollow metal and flush doors. On a storefront stile, stay with a narrow stile device such as the DORMA F9700, the Falcon 19-R or the Adams Rite 8800.
6) We need electric latch retraction on a narrow stile door. How does the DORMA F9700BB compare to an SDC bar?
The DORMA F9700BB is a mechanical Grade 1 fire rated rim exit device that can be ordered with MLR motorized latch retraction, so the latch is drawn in by motor and the bar can be held retracted electrically during open hours. The SDC MSB550 mechanical switch bar and the SDC SureExit PSB560 pressure sense bar are both 36 inch, fit narrow or wide stile, and are not fire rated; they signal an electromagnetic lock rather than carry a latch of their own. On a fire door where a latching device is required, the F9700 with MLR is the one that latches.
7) Do I need to specify a hand when ordering the DORMA 9700 rim exit device?
No handing to call out. The 9700 rim device is non-handed, so one part number covers left and right hand openings. What you do specify is the finish, any dogging preference, and options such as MLR, antimicrobial coating, sex nuts, security screws, hurricane or barrier free.
8) What strike ships with the fire rated DORMA 9700 rim device?
Fire rated and hurricane rated 9000 Series devices include the 463 rim strike as standard. The 430 strike is the standard on the non-fire devices. So on a fire opening you are getting the 463, and the frame prep needs to suit that strike.
9) What fasteners come with the DORMA F9700 and do I need sex bolts?
Wood and machine screws are standard across the 9000 Series, and sex nuts (SNB) are provided as standard on fire rated and hurricane rated devices, so the fire rated 9700 already includes them. SNB is also available as an add-on option, and the hurricane option (HC) includes SNB. Security screws (TX) are a separate option if the opening is abuse prone.
10) Can I add lever trim later to the DORMA F9700BB, or is it exit only?
As configured, the 9700 in this build is exit only, meaning there is no outside trim and the door is push-to-exit with no key or lever entry from outside. The 9000 Series does offer a full range of free wheeling lever trim in architectural finishes, so trim is a series option, but it has to be ordered as part of the device configuration rather than bolted onto an exit only device after the fact.
11) Is the DORMA 9700 rim device ADA compliant for operating force?
The 9000 Series complies with NFPA life safety code and ADA. Where your jurisdiction enforces the California Building Code 5 lb maximum operating force, order the BF barrier free option, which is offered on the 9300, 9500 and 9700 models.
12) What other fire rated 36 inch rim exit devices could I use instead of the DORMA F9700?
A few fire rated rim devices in the same size class: the Marks USA M9900F 36 inch exit only rim device with panic protector end cap, the Orca Hardware OED85 Series 36 inch fire rated rim device, and the Dexter ED1000 Series fire rated Grade 1 rim device. If the opening is a narrow stile aluminum leaf, the closest fire rated narrow stile match is the Adams Rite 3700 Series. The DORMA 9700 itself is Grade 1 heavy duty and narrow stile.
13) Will the DORMA 9700 hold up in a school corridor?
It is built for that kind of traffic. Grade 1, heavy duty, with a cast chassis and a reduced projection touch bar that cuts down on snagging in a busy corridor. DORMA positions the 9000 Series for high impact applications like schools, universities and other institutional and commercial buildings. For a healthcare or high touch corridor, the AM antimicrobial coating option is available.
14) Can I match the DORMA 9700 to the brass and bronze hardware already in my building?
Fifteen finishes are offered, spanning architectural and powder coated: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 696 satin brass, 611 bright bronze, 612 satin bronze, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 691 light bronze, 695 dark bronze, 619 satin nickel, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome, 629 bright stainless, 630 satin stainless, 689 aluminum and 693 black. Matching lever trim is offered across the architectural finish range if you later standardize openings that need outside trim.
