Dormakaba E3765MSNL-626-41 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the E-Plex 3700 include the Adams Rite latch, or do I reuse the one in my door?
You reuse the latch. The 3700 replaces the inside trim on an existing Adams Rite deadlatch or deadlock, and the lock case is not included. It retrofits Adams Rite 1850, 1950, 4070, 4510, 4520, 4530, 4710, 4720, 4730, 4900, 4920AN, MS 1850S, MS 1950S and 8400 Series. If your storefront already has one of those, the keypad goes on the existing prep.
2) My storefront door has a narrow stile exit device instead of an Adams Rite deadlatch. Can I still use the E-Plex 3700?
Yes, with an adapter. Dormakaba offers an adapter kit that lets the 3700 mount to various manufacturers' narrow stile exit devices rather than an Adams Rite lock case. That kit is a separate line item, so order it alongside the lock.
3) Do I have to order the E-Plex 3700 handed for a left or right hand door?
No handing to specify. The 3700 ships non-handed and the hand is changed in the field, so one part number covers both leaves of a pair and you can stock a single spare for a whole building.
4) What do I need to specify when ordering a Dormakaba E-Plex 3700, and what has to be ordered separately?
Two choices on the order. Finish: 626 satin chrome, or 744 dark bronze with satin brass pushbuttons. Key override: MS, which comes in a Schlage C keyway mortise cylinder, or B, which is a 6/7-pin small format interchangeable core prep supplied less core. Pick B and you supply the SFIC yourself. The Adams Rite lock case is separate, and so is the adapter kit if you're mounting to a narrow stile exit device.
5) Can I key the E-Plex 3700 into my building's existing Best interchangeable core system?
Yes, order the B version. It comes prepped for a 6 or 7 pin small format interchangeable core and ships less core, so you drop in the core off your existing Best or equivalent 6-pin system. If you're not on an IC system, the MS version comes with a mortise cylinder in Schlage C keyway. Either way the override is single cylinder, keyed outside only.
6) Does the E-Plex 3700 need wiring or a power supply run to the door?
No wiring at all. The 3700 is a standalone battery keypad lock, so there's nothing run to or through the door and no pinched wire in the hinge loop. That's the reason it goes on storefront and perimeter doors where pulling power through an aluminum stile isn't practical. Programming is done at the keypad, or with the optional Excel-based software.
7) I need a Grade 1 mortise lock but no keypad - what do I use instead of the E-Plex 3700?
The Sargent TR-8200 is the mechanical route. It is a heavy duty Grade 1 mortise lock from the 8200 Series with LN round rose trim, so credentialing is by key alone - no codes to program, no audit trail. The E-Plex 3700 is an electronic pushbutton mortise lock tested to BHMA Grade 1 life cycle requirements that carries up to 300 access codes and 9,000 audit events, with a mechanical key override in a Schlage C keyway. Choose the 8200 when the facility does not want to manage codes, and the 3700 when eliminating key issue and collection is the point.
8) How many people can I give codes to on an E-Plex 3700, and can I see who came through the door?
300 access codes per door, and the lock stores the most recent 9,000 events in memory, including any use of the mechanical key override. Code length is adjustable from 4 to 8 digits. Five authority levels control who can change what, and service codes can be issued for one-time entry or come-and-go access for 1 to 24 hours, which is how you handle a cleaning crew or a vendor without cutting a key.
9) Can I leave the door on free entry during business hours and have it lock itself at night?
Yes. Passage mode is enabled by PIN or by key and can be pre-programmed to re-lock automatically after a set number of hours, 1 to 24. Lockout mode shuts the door to all codes when you need it. Free egress from the inside is always there, since the Adams Rite latch retracts mechanically on the way out.
10) Will a Dormakaba E-Plex 3700 hold up on an exterior door in a cold climate?
It is indoor/outdoor approved, with the front housing rated from -31 F (-35 C) to 151 F (66 C). Construction is a solid cast housing with a solid cast lever or thumbturn, cycle tested to BHMA Grade 1 life cycle and operating reliability requirements, and it meets ADA for accessible operation.
11) Should I use an E-Plex 3700 or a standard mortise lock like the Sargent 8200 on my door?
Depends on the door. The E-Plex 3700 is a narrow stile keypad trim that mounts to an existing Adams Rite lock case in an aluminum storefront stile, minimum 2 inches. It won't help you on a wide stile hollow metal or wood door with a full mortise pocket. For that opening a conventional mortise lockset such as the Sargent TR-8200 with LN round rose trim, a heavy duty Grade 1 8200 Series lock, is the right shape of product. Pick the 3700 when you want code access on glass front doors without keys, cards or wiring.
12) Is the Dormakaba E-Plex 3700 suitable for a commercial building, and what is the trim made of?
It is a commercial rated device, extra heavy duty, with brass or bronze substrate housings and levers. Standard finish is satin chrome 626 on both housing and lever; the optional 744 dark bronze simulates 10B/613 and pairs with satin brass 606 pushbuttons, which is the one to match against dark anodized storefront framing.
13) Someone keeps punching numbers at my keypad door. Can the E-Plex 3700 be set to lock them out?
Yes. Anti-tamper lockout is adjustable to trip after 3 to 9 invalid attempts, with a lockout period you set anywhere from 0 to 90 seconds. Re-lock time after a valid code is separately adjustable from 2 to 20 seconds, so you can shorten the window on a door people prop.
