Dormakaba 5066-XS-WL-26D-41 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Do I have to order the Simplex 5066 handed for a left or right hand door?
No handing to specify. The 5066 is non-handed and arrives pre-assembled for a left-hand door; if the opening is right-handed you reverse it in the field, no parts to order. That matters for a property manager buying several at once, since one part number covers every door in the building regardless of swing.
2) What does the Simplex 5066 do that the 5067 and 5068 don't?
Three functions separate them. The 5066 is combination entry with key override and exterior combination change only, and that is all it does. The 5067 adds a deadbolt plus a lockout feature that disables the code from the inside so only the key override gets you in. The 5068 adds a passage function instead, which lets people through without entering the code. If you want the door to stay latched and locked at all times with a code for entry and no deadbolt, the 5066 is the one; if you need to hold the door in passage during business hours, order the 5068.
3) Which cylinder or core option should I pick to key the Simplex 5066 into my existing master key system?
Seven cylinder choices cover most systems. Order XK for a Kaba 90 keyway or XS for a Schlage C keyway if you want a core supplied with the lock. If your building is already on an interchangeable core system, order it less core in the matching prep: B for 6/7-pin SFIC (Best and equivalents), C for Corbin Russwin 6-pin LFIC, M for Medeco/Yale/ASSA/Abloy LFIC, R for Sargent LFIC, or S for Schlage FSIC. Less-core options let your locksmith drop in the cores you already stock, so the override key stays on the existing system.
4) Is a 5 inch stile wide enough for a Simplex 5066?
Five inches is the minimum recommended stile for this lock, so an aluminum storefront door with a 5 inch or wider stile will take it. Narrow stile doors below that will not. That is the number to check first on a glass front opening, before finish or keying.
5) Is the Simplex 5066 fire rated and ADA compliant for an institutional facility?
The Simplex 5000 Series carries a 3-hour UL/ULC fire rating for A label doors, and where it is used as exit trim the exit device it mounts to must itself be fire rated. It meets the Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility standard and uses a lever handle rather than a knob. It is a Grade 1, commercial-duty lock, wear tested for indoor and outdoor use, and D.O.D. 5220.22M compliant for supplemental access control.
6) Can I put a Simplex 5066 on a door that already has a panic bar?
Not this model. The 5066 is a mortise lock and mounts in the door itself. For a door with an exit device you want the 5010, which is the exit trim version of the Simplex 5000 and is designed to give combination entry from the outside while the exit device handles egress. The exit device is not supplied with it. The 5000 Series exit trim is listed as compatible with devices including Von Duprin 22/22F, 98/98F, 99/99F and XP98/99, Sargent 8888, 2828, 3828 and 8810E/8800, Corbin Russwin ED5200/5200A, Precision 21/FL21, Detex 10/F10 Series, Yale 7100 and YME2100, Cal Royal 9800 and 2200, Arrow S1250 and S3883F/S3800, and dormakaba 9300/F9300.
7) Can I get a Simplex 5066 with a deadbolt or a passage function instead?
The locking device options run three ways on a 1-1/4 inch (32 mm) mortise case: no deadbolt, no deadbolt with passage, and with deadbolt and lockout. The plain no-deadbolt version is combination entry with key override. Adding passage lets you hold the latch retracted so people walk through without a code, released from the inside. The deadbolt and lockout version throws a bolt and lets someone inside disable the code entirely, leaving key override as the only way in. Pick by how the door is used, not by the hardware alone.
8) Can I change the code on a Simplex 5066 without taking the lock off the door?
Yes, the code is programmed through the keypad with the lock in place. On the 5066 specifically the combination change is done from the exterior side only, unlike the 5030 and 5050 models which change from the interior. It runs one single access code for all users, so there is nothing to audit or assign, and being fully mechanical there is no battery to replace. Turnover in a building means one code change at the door, not a re-key.
9) What finishes does the Dormakaba Simplex 5066 come in, and will it match the other doors in my building?
Four finishes are offered on the 5066: 626 satin chrome, 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, and 744 dark bronze with brass accents. Satin chrome 626 is the standard on this series and is the one that matches most commercial lever hardware already hanging in an office or multi-family building. The lock body is brass or bronze substrate with vandal resistant metal pushbuttons, so the keypad holds up on an exterior or high traffic door rather than wearing smooth.
10) What comes in the box with a Simplex 5066, and what do I still need to buy?
Each 5066 ships with the lock assembly, the installation manual, a full scale template, and the required mounting hardware. What is not in the box is the strike prep in your frame and, on the less-core cylinder options (B, C, M, R, S), the core itself, which you supply from your own system. Order the XK or XS variant instead if you want a core included. There is no exit device supplied with any 5000 Series lock.
11) If I'm buying several Simplex 5066 locks for one building, can I get them keyed alike?
Yes. Keying is a required selection at order: no special keying, keyed alike, or keyed different. Keyed alike only applies when you buy more than one lock, and it puts every override key on one bitting, which is what a property manager usually wants across a set of doors. Keying applies to the models that include a cylinder, so pair it with the XK (Kaba 90) or XS (Schlage C) cylinder option. Bear in mind each lock still runs its own single access code, so keyed alike matches the override keys, not the pushbutton codes.
12) Does the Simplex 5066 need power or batteries run to the door?
No power at all. The 5066 is fully mechanical, so there is no wiring, no transformer, and no battery to change. Codes are entered on the pushbuttons and the lock works the same in a power outage as it does any other day. That removes the labor line item that battery-powered keypad locks add across a fleet of doors, and it is why this series shows up on remote or unwired openings.
