The Simplex LP1000 Series provides exterior access by combination, while allowing free egress with Exit Device (not supplied). 1) Will the Simplex LP1010 pushbutton trim work with my Von Duprin rim exit device?
Yes, for rim devices. The LP1000 Series trim lists Von Duprin 22, 88 NL, 98, 99, 900, 2227, 9827, 9847, 9847 WDC, 9848, 9857, 9927, 9947, 9948, 9957, 90027, 90047 WDC and 90057 among the compatible rim exit devices. It also covers Detex Advantex Series 10, 20, 21, 40, 50, 51 and Detex 10/F10, Cal Royal 5000/F5000, Dorex 8500R/8500F and 9500PR/9500FR, Dorma 9100 and 9300, Black & Decker (K-12) QED111/112, and Monarch devices (several Monarch models need the special K-Hub Adapter Kit). What it will not work with: mortise design or vertical rod exit devices. The exit device itself and the mounting hardware are not included.
2) I have a surface vertical rod exit device on a pair of doors. Can I put a Simplex LP1000 pushbutton trim on it?
No. The LP1000 Series mechanical pushbutton trim drives a rim device only. Mortise design and vertical rod exit devices are excluded outright, so a surface or concealed vertical rod pair is the wrong application. If the opening has to stay a vertical rod pair, the pushbutton access has to come from a different product family; if you can convert the active leaf to a rim device with a mullion, the LP1000 trim then applies.
3) Does the Simplex LP1010 need to be ordered handed, or can I flip it in the field?
Handing matters here, and you cannot change it on the job. The LP1010 is factory-handed and not field reversible, so the hand has to be right on the purchase order. It is offered as Left Hand and Right Hand, covering right hand / right hand reverse and left hand / left hand reverse openings. Stand outside the door, on the keypad side, and confirm the swing before you order.
4) Can I use the Simplex LP1010 on a 3-hour fire rated door?
Yes. The LP1000 Series exit trim carries a 3-hour UL/ULC fire rating for "A" labeled doors, and it is a Grade 1 product. Free egress is handled by the exit device behind it, which is what a fire opening needs, and the exit device is ordered separately.
5) Does the Simplex LP1010 have a key override, and how many codes can I issue?
No key override on the LP1010. It is combination entry function only, with a single access code shared by all users. That is the trade-off with this model: nothing to rekey and nothing to carry, but also no mechanical bypass if the code is forgotten. The code is changed at the keypad without pulling the lock off the door. If you need a key override, look at the LP1000 Series models that accept a cylinder rather than this one.
6) What else do I have to buy to finish an opening with a Simplex LP1000 exit trim?
The rim exit device and its mounting hardware are not included, and the strike comes with the exit device rather than the trim. So the order is: the LP1000 trim, plus a compatible rim device. Recessed through bolts may be required for the exit device preparation. Monarch devices marked with an asterisk in the compatibility list also need the special K-Hub Adapter Kit. If the door is thicker than the standard tailpiece covers, add the 5 inch tailpiece, part # 74773-000-01.
7) Do I need to run power or change batteries on the Simplex LP1000 pushbutton lock?
Neither. The Simplex LP1000 is fully mechanical, so there is no wiring, no power supply, and no batteries to replace. When the power drops in the building, it keeps working exactly the same. For a property manager running a lot of back doors and equipment rooms, that removes the battery replacement labor line entirely, and there are no keys or cards to issue, control, or collect.
8) Will dogging the exit device down during business hours cause a problem with the Simplex pushbutton trim?
No. The exit device can be dogged without affecting the LP1000. Dog the device open for the business day and let the trim take over for after-hours code entry. That is the usual pattern on a back-of-house or tenant entry door.
9) What finishes does the Simplex LP1010 exit trim come in?
Four: Satin Chrome 626 and Antique Brass 609 are the standard finishes, with Bright Chrome 625 and Bright Brass 605 as options. Each of those four is available in both Left Hand and Right Hand. Satin Chrome 626 is the one that matches most commercial door hardware already hanging in a building, so it is the usual pick when you are standardizing across a fleet of openings.
10) Is the Simplex LP1010 lever ADA compliant, and does the lever turn?
The lever is fixed, not a turning lever, and it is ADA compliant as supplied. The keypad uses solid metal pushbuttons that are vandal resistant, and the housing is heavy-duty cast with a heavy-duty mounting plate. Entry is by code at the keypad, not by rotating the lever.
11) Can the Simplex LP1010 go on an exterior door?
Yes. It is a commercial-rated, weather resistant unit with a heavy-duty cast front housing, which is why it turns up on rear service doors, gates to equipment yards, and tenant back entries. Being fully mechanical also means no electronics sitting in the weather.
