Dortronics 1100 Series - 1150 Narrow 2-5/8" Slim Line 1500lbs Door Mag Lock

Solid, secure door control is possible with this state of the art electromagnetic lock. Capable of providing over 1500 pounds of holding force, per door leaf, these locks are available in models for single and pairs of out-swinging or in-swinging doors. Filler plates, angle brackets, and other mounting adapters allow easy installation on a wide range of door and frame types and conditions. Capable of being controlled and monitored individually, sequentially, or simultaneously from one or several locations, the application of 1150 maglocks can be used with automatic swinging and sliding door systems, and most security alarm systems. The well confined magnetic field of these locks allow them to be used in computer rooms and other electronically sensitive areas. With the built-in suppressor system protecting connected circuitry and components from noise and spikes, 1150 maglocks can be reliably interfaced with any electronic access control and monitoring equipment.

Features:

  • Safe Operation: ALL 1150 series electro-magnetic locking devices are inherently fail-safe, releasing instantly upon command or loss of power. With no moving parts to wear, stick or bind; no mechanical linkages to bend or break; and no bolt travel time or misalignment concerns, both locking and unlocking are accomplished with ease and efficiency.
  • Extended Service: The rugged design and durable constructions insure virtually endless actuations without fear of electrical fatigue or mechanical breakdown. This, combined with manufacturing to the most stringent quality control standards, allows Dortronics to offer a lifetime warranty on all electro-magnetic locks.
  • NFPA Life Safety Compatible: As electromagnetic locking devices function independently of mechanical locks, installation of magnetic locks will not jeopardize the door rating of an opening. Magnetic locks are ideal for use with fire and hazard detection systems to provide unobstructed egress and are highly recommended for use on exit door control systems requiring delayed releasing, per NFPA 101 or BOCA codes.
  • Small 2-5/8” mounting profile
  • Low efficient current draw
  • Easy access security housing

Dortronics 1150D – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Dortronics 1150 maglock fit on an inswinging door?
Yes, but you have to order it with the TJ prefix. TJ is the top jamb mounting version for inswinging doors, and it comes with a back mount housing plus a Z bracket for the armature. Ordered without that prefix, the 1150 is set up for outswing doors with the magnet on the frame stop and the armature on the door. Two other housing prefixes exist if the opening is awkward: LV for a long housing on vertical jamb mounted locks, and LW for a wide housing on horizontal full width mounting.
2) How much clearance do I need for a 2-5/8 inch slim line Dortronics mag lock?
The 1150 housing is 12 inches long, 2-5/8 inches high and 1-7/8 inches deep. Total projection off the frame is 3-1/8 inches once the armature is counted. The double door 1152 uses the same height and depth but runs 24 inches long, and the 1155 split armature model is back to a 12 inch housing. That 2-5/8 inch height is the reason people spec it on narrow stop frames and aluminum storefront where a full size mag will not sit.
3) What is the difference between the Dortronics 1150, 1152 and 1155 mag locks?
Three different door configurations. The 1150 is a single door lock rated 1500 lbs total. The 1152 is a double door unit with two magnets in a 24 inch housing, 1500 lbs per leaf. The 1155 is a double door application using a single 12 inch lock with split armatures, which gives you 750 lbs per door leaf. If you are holding a pair of high traffic doors, the 1152 is the one; the 1155 is the lighter duty, lower cost way to cover a pair from one housing.
4) Does this Dortronics mag lock unlock when the power goes out?
Yes. The 1150 is fail-safe by design: the magnet releases instantly on command or on loss of power. There are no moving parts, no linkages and no bolt travel, so there is no chance of it binding on release. That behavior is what lets it sit on an egress door tied into fire and hazard detection, and it is also why it must be tied to a power supply your fire alarm can drop.
5) What power supply do I need for a Dortronics 1150 mag lock?
Voltage is field selectable between 12 and 24VDC, so one unit covers either supply. Current draw on the 1150 and 1155 is 300mA at 24VDC or 600mA at 12VDC. The double door 1152 pulls 600mA at 24VDC or 1.20 amp at 12VDC. Size the supply off those numbers and remember 12VDC doubles the load on the same lock, which matters when you are running several locks off one panel.
6) Does the Dortronics 1150 provide delayed egress on its own, or do I need a different lock?
The Dortronics 1150 is an inherently fail-safe magnet that releases instantly on command or loss of power, and the 1100 Series is recommended for exit door control systems requiring delayed releasing per NFPA 101 or BOCA - that delay comes from the control equipment interfaced with it, not from the magnet itself. If you want the delay function built into the lock, the Alarm Controls 1200DE Series is a delayed egress magnetic lock for a single door, and the DynaLock 2101 Series is a 1200 lb early warning lock.
7) Will a mag lock void the fire rating on my door?
No. Electromagnetic locking devices operate independently of the mechanical lock on the door, so installing the 1150 does not jeopardize the door rating of the opening. These locks are commonly used with fire and hazard detection systems for unobstructed egress, and are recommended on exit door control systems requiring delayed release per NFPA 101 or BOCA codes. Note the 1150 itself is not a delayed egress unit, so if you need built-in delay you would look at a delayed egress model such as the Alarm Controls 1200DE for a single door.
8) Does the Dortronics 1150 come with a door position switch?
Both orderable configurations include an SPDT door position switch, in either single mag lock or double mag lock form. That dry contact gives your access control panel or alarm a door open/closed status without adding a separate surface contact to the frame. Choose single for one leaf, double for a pair.
9) Can I mount this mag lock on an odd frame or where the stop is too shallow?
Filler plates, angle brackets and other mounting adapters are available for the 1150, which is how these get onto a wide range of door and frame types and conditions. Order those adapters alongside the lock; the base unit covers a standard condition and the brackets handle glass front, header and shallow stop situations.
10) My frame has a shallow header - what slim alternatives are there to the Dortronics 1150?
The Dortronics 1150 was built for that case: a 2-5/8 inch high slim line housing, 1-7/8 inch deep, with 3-1/8 inch total projection including the armature, and mounting kits including filler plates, angle brackets and adapters plus a TJ prefix top jamb version for inswinging doors. Other narrow-profile approaches in the category include the Schlage 320M compact mortise magnetic lock for sliding doors and the ROFU 8512 single magnet with selectable keyhole mounting at 1200 lb holding force, 12/24VDC.
11) Which magnetic locks besides the Dortronics 1150 offer bond sensing in addition to door position monitoring?
The Dortronics 1150 is offered with an SPDT door position switch on both the single and double lock configurations. If you also want magnetic bond status reported back to the panel, the Dorma EML310 BA DP 628 adds Bond Alert along with the door position sensor at 1500 lb single door, and the Schlage M390RFK carries both a door status monitor and a magnetic bond sensor at 1500 lbs.
12) Can I use a magnetic lock near computer rooms or sensitive electronics?
Yes. The magnetic field on the 1150 is well confined, which is why these are used on computer rooms and other electronically sensitive spaces. A built-in suppressor system also protects connected circuitry from noise and voltage spikes, so it interfaces with access control and monitoring equipment without you adding an external diode across the coil.
13) Can one access control panel run several Dortronics 1150 mag locks together?
Yes. These locks can be controlled and monitored individually, sequentially or simultaneously from one or several locations, which is what you want on a vestibule, interlock or a run of corridor doors. They also work with automatic swinging and sliding door systems and most security alarm systems, and the built-in suppressor keeps switching noise off the panel.
