Model 2803 Flush Wall Mount, 1” Extended Armature

DynaLock 2800 Series Electromagnetic Door Holders are designed to hold self-closing fire or smoke barrier doors open until automatically released by fire alarm, smoke detection, or sprinkler systems. They can also be manually controlled wherever instant closing of doors is required for safety or convenience. Each door holder assembly consists of a floor or wall mounted heavy-duty electromagnet, a selfadjusting and pivoting armature, and all necessary mounting hardware. All models are field selectable to operate on 12 VDC, 24 VAC/VDC, or 120 VAC input voltage. Convenient screw terminals are provided for field hook-up. All holder models are UL listed. Optional Extension rods are available, to extend the armature projection, for installations where a wide standoff distance between the electromagnet and armature mounting locations exist. 1) Will the DynaLock 2803 door holder release the door when the fire alarm trips or power drops?
That's exactly how the 2803 works. It's a fail-safe electromagnet, so the magnet drops the door the instant power is cut, whether that's a fire alarm, smoke detector, sprinkler signal, or a plain power loss. Nothing has to actuate mechanically for the door to close. The 2800 Series holders are UL listed, and they're built to hold self-closing fire or smoke barrier doors open until that release signal comes.
2) What voltage does the DynaLock 2803 door holder run on, and do I have to order a specific one?
One part covers all three. The 2803 is field selectable for 12 VDC, 24 VAC/VDC, or 120 VAC 60Hz, so you set it at install rather than specifying voltage on the order. Screw terminals are provided for the field hook-up. That matters on a retrofit where you're tying into an existing fire alarm panel output and don't know yet what it puts out.
3) Is the DynaLock 2803 wall mounted or floor mounted?
Wall mount, and flush at that. The 2803 recesses into the wall rather than surface mounting on it, so you need a wall cavity and a rough opening prepped before finish work. If the holder has to land on a floor instead, or the wall won't take a recess, the 2803 is the wrong choice in the 2800 Series and you want a floor or surface mount model.
4) How much holding force does the DynaLock 2800 Series door holder have, and can staff still push the door closed?
30 to 45 lbs per door. That's deliberately modest: it holds a self-closing door open against its closer, but a person can pull the door shut by hand while the magnet is still energized without damaging anything. So in a corridor or a dayroom where staff need to close a door before the alarm sounds, they just close it. If you need a magnet that genuinely resists being pulled, you're looking at a maglock, not a door holder.
5) My wall is further from the door than the armature reaches. Does the DynaLock 2803 handle that?
The 2803 already carries a 1 inch extended armature, which buys you standoff over the base flush wall mount. Past that, DynaLock offers optional extension rods to lengthen the armature projection for installations where a wide standoff exists between where the electromagnet lands and where the armature mounts on the door. Those rods are sold separately, so measure the gap from finished wall face to the armature plate location on the door leaf before you order.
6) Does the door have to line up perfectly with the DynaLock 2803 magnet for it to hold?
There's some forgiveness built in. The armature assembly is self-adjusting and pivoting, so it seats against the magnet face even when the door doesn't come to rest perfectly square to it. That's the piece that saves you on older openings where the door is slightly out of plumb or the closer overswings a touch. You still want the magnet and armature roughly aligned at the same height on the same swing arc.
7) Will the DynaLock 2803 damage the fire alarm panel or other electronics when it releases?
Built-in spike suppression is standard on the 2800 Series holders. When the electromagnet de-energizes, the collapsing coil field would otherwise kick back a voltage spike down the circuit; the suppression handles that so other solid state components in the system aren't damaged. It also draws low power, which stretches battery standby time on a panel running holders on secondary supply.
8) What finish does the DynaLock 2803 come in?
Satin aluminum, US28, is the standard finish on the 2800 Series holders, and it's what the 2803 faceplate ships in. DynaLock does offer optional sprayed finishes on a consult-factory basis if you're matching a specific paint on a corridor wall. The housing and faceplate are heavy duty die cast metal, which is what you want in a hallway that takes cart traffic.
9) Is the DynaLock 2803 door holder rated for commercial buildings, and does it come with mounting hardware?
It's a commercial-duty part, made in the USA, and each 2800 Series holder assembly ships with the electromagnet, the pivoting armature, and all necessary mounting hardware. What isn't in the box is the extension rods and other accessories, which are ordered separately. For a multi-family or healthcare corridor standardizing across openings, the same 2803 works on every wall-mounted location because the voltage is selected in the field.
