Model 2804 Flush Wall Mount, Standard Armature

DynaLock 2800 Series Electromagnetic Door Holders are designed to hold self-closing fire or smoke barrier doors open until automatically released by fire alarm, smoke detection, or sprinkler systems. They can also be manually controlled wherever instant closing of doors is required for safety or convenience. Each door holder assembly consists of a floor or wall mounted heavy-duty electromagnet, a selfadjusting and pivoting armature, and all necessary mounting hardware. All models are field selectable to operate on 12 VDC, 24 VAC/VDC, or 120 VAC input voltage. Convenient screw terminals are provided for field hook-up. All holder models are UL listed. Optional Extension rods are available, to extend the armature projection, for installations where a wide standoff distance between the electromagnet and armature mounting locations exist. DynaLock 2800 Door Holders each provide 30-45 lbs. of holding force, allowing manual door closure when electromagnets are energized.

DynaLock 2804 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the DynaLock 2804 door holder work on a 24VAC fire alarm circuit, or do I need to order a specific voltage?
One part covers all three. The 2804 is field selectable for 12 VDC, 24 VAC/VDC, or 120 VAC/60Hz, so you set it at install rather than ordering a voltage-specific model. Screw terminals are provided for field hook-up, so you are landing conductors directly on the magnet without a separate junction.
2) Does the DynaLock 2804 release the door automatically when the fire alarm trips or power drops?
Yes. It is a fail-safe magnet, so it releases the instant power is cut, whether that comes from the fire alarm relay, smoke detection, sprinkler flow, or a general power loss. There is no unlocking input to wire; interrupting the holding current is what drops the door to the closer. Built-in spike suppression is included so the de-energizing surge does not damage other solid state devices on the same circuit.
3) Is the 2804 a surface mount or does it recess into the wall?
Flush wall mount. The 2804 electromagnet sets into the wall so the faceplate finishes flat against the surface, which means you need a wall cavity or backbox prepped for it rather than just a solid mounting surface. If the magnet has to sit on the face of the wall or on the floor, the 2804 is the wrong configuration in the 2800 Series for you.
4) The wall is further from the door than the armature reaches. What do I do?
Order an extension rod. DynaLock offers optional extension rods for the 2800 Series that lengthen the armature projection where there is a wide standoff between the magnet location and the armature mounting point on the door. The 2804 ships with the standard armature, which is a self-adjusting, pivoting assembly, so minor misalignment between door and wall is taken up by the armature itself. Accessories including extension rods are sold separately.
5) Is the DynaLock 2804 UL listed for holding open fire and smoke barrier doors?
All 2800 Series holder models are UL listed, and the series is built specifically to hold self-closing fire or smoke barrier doors open until released by fire alarm, smoke detection, or sprinkler systems. It is a commercial-duty product, not a residential one.
6) How much force does a DynaLock 2800 door holder hold with, and can staff still push the door shut by hand?
Each 2800 Series holder delivers 30 to 45 lbs of holding force per door. That is enough to keep a self-closing fire or smoke door open against its closer, but light enough that someone can pull the door free by hand while the magnet is still energized, which is what you want for a corridor door that occasionally has to be closed on demand.
7) Does the DynaLock 2804 come with mounting hardware, or do I need to buy that separately?
Mounting hardware is included. Each 2800 Series door holder assembly consists of the heavy-duty electromagnet, the self-adjusting pivoting armature, and all necessary mounting hardware. What is not included is the extension rod and other accessories, which are sold separately, plus whatever you need on the alarm side to switch the holding circuit.
8) What finish does the DynaLock 2804 come in, and what is the housing made of?
Satin aluminum US28 is the standard and only stocked finish on the 2804, with heavy-duty die cast metal housing and faceplate. Optional sprayed finishes exist through the factory. Note that the stainless steel faceplate and US32D finish called out in the 2800 Series apply to the 2806 and 2810 models, not the 2804.
9) Will a magnetic door holder like this drain my fire alarm standby batteries?
The 2800 Series is specified as low power consumption, which is called out as reducing operating costs and extending battery stand-by time. That matters when several holders are riding on the same alarm panel's standby supply. Keep in mind the holder draws current continuously while the door is held open, since it is fail-safe.
