DynaLock 3101C DSM Series - Single Electromagnetic Lock Delayed Egress Outswing, Door Sensor Switch

Outswing is exactly what the 3101C DSM is built for. It's a single-door delayed egress electromagnetic lock configured for outswing openings, so the magnet mounts on the frame header and the armature on the door face. For an inswing opening you'd need a different mounting arrangement (bracket kit or an inswing-configured magnet), not this one.

1500 lbs of holding force, which is the full commercial rating used on perimeter and stairwell doors rather than a light interior application. That puts it in the same holding class as the Dorma EML310 single-door magnet and the Schlage Electronics M390RFK, both rated at 1500 lb. If you only need an interior office or closet door held, a 500 lb magnet like the Schlage M420 covers it.

The magnet body measures 3-1/2 x 2-3/4 x 11 inches, so you need roughly 11 inches of clear header run and about 3-1/2 inches of soffit depth to land it. That depth is the thing that catches people out on narrow aluminum or storefront headers. If the header is too shallow, a slim-line magnet like the Dortronics 1107, a 2 inch wide 600 lb single door unit, is the direction to look.

Four builds, and you pick one on the order. Door Sensor Switch Only is the base monitored version. Door Sensor Switch, BOCA Code Compliant is the one to take where the authority having jurisdiction enforces BOCA egress language. Door Status Monitor, Dynastat Force Sensor adds force sensing on the armature instead of the plain switch. Door Status Monitor, Dynastat Force Sensor, Egress Sensor Omitted is the same again with the egress sensor left off, for jobs where egress initiation is coming from a separate device such as a request-to-exit sensor or push bar.

The 3101C DSM is a single electromagnetic lock. For an opening with two leaves, the Dorma EML320 is a double door electromagnetic lock rated 1500 lb, and the Alarm Controls 1200D is a double magnetic lock. Those give you one assembly covering both leaves rather than specifying two single units.

It is not a retrofit for that opening. The Schlage Electronics M390RFK is a direct retrofit for the Locknetics 390+, at 1500 lbs holding force with a door status monitor, magnetic bond sensor and relock time delay. The DynaLock 3101C DSM also holds 1500 lbs, but its housing is 3-1/2 inch D x 2-3/4 inch H x 11 inch L and would need its own mounting layout, so plan on new prep if you go that route.

For a single-door maglock at 1500 lbs holding force with door position monitoring built in, the Dorma EML310 DP is the nearest peer - it is a single-door electromagnetic lock rated 1500 lb with a door position sensor. The Schlage Electronics M390RFK is also a 1500 lbs holding force electromagnetic lock with a door status monitor and magnetic bond sensor. The DynaLock 3101C DSM holds 1500 lbs on 12/24 VDC and is built for outswing doors, so match the swing direction and the mounting side when you cross over.

The Alarm Controls 1200DE is a delayed egress magnetic lock for a single door, which is the same application the 3101C DSM covers. The DynaLock unit adds a door sensor switch and is offered with a Dynastat force sensor and a BOCA code compliant configuration, so if the authority having jurisdiction is asking for a specific egress code listing, confirm which configuration the submittal calls for before you swap.

The door sensor switch reports whether the door is closed. The Dynastat force sensor version reports on force applied at the magnet, so the delayed egress cycle initiates from pressure on the door rather than only from a switch state. Order the Dynastat builds where you want the egress timer triggered by someone actually pushing the door, and the plain Door Sensor Switch build where a simple monitored contact is all the panel needs.

Magnetic locks hold by electromagnet, so cutting power releases the door. The 3101C DSM is not battery operated and runs on 12/24 VDC, which means dropping the supply through the fire alarm interface or a release relay unlocks the opening. The delayed egress function is the part that has to be coordinated with your local authority, which is why one of the builds is offered as BOCA code compliant.

The 3101C DSM housing measures 3-1/2 inch D x 2-3/4 inch H x 11 inch L. If that will not fit the header, the Dortronics 1107 is a narrow 2 inch slim line single door mag lock at 600lbs, and the Schlage M420 is a single door electromagnetic lock at 500 lbs holding force. Both give up holding force relative to the 1500 lbs the 3101C DSM delivers, so confirm the security level the opening requires.

The ROFU 8031-002 is a shear lock with 2200 LB holding force on 12/24VDC, monitored, and it installs concealed in the head of the frame acting against a plate in the top of the door.
