DynaLock 2800 Series Electromagnetic Door Holders

Model 2802 Floor Mount, Double Door

DynaLock 2800 Series Electromagnetic Door Holders are designed to hold self-closing fire or smoke barrier doors open until automatically released by fire alarm, smoke detection, or sprinkler systems. They can also be manually controlled wherever instant closing of doors is required for safety or convenience. Each door holder assembly consists of a floor or wall mounted heavy-duty electromagnet, a selfadjusting and pivoting armature, and all necessary mounting hardware. All models are field selectable to operate on 12 VDC, 24 VAC/VDC, or 120 VAC input voltage. Convenient screw terminals are provided for field hook-up. All holder models are UL listed. Optional Extension rods are available, to extend the armature projection, for installations where a wide standoff distance between the electromagnet and armature mounting locations exist. DynaLock 2800 Door Holders each provide 30-45 lbs. of holding force, allowing manual door closure when electromagnets are energized.

Standard Features
• 30-45 Lbs. holding force per door.
• Low power consumption conserves energy, reduces operating costs and extends battery stand-by time.
• Tri-Voltage: 12 VDC, 24 VAC/VDC or 120 VAC/60Hz selectable operation.
• Fail-Safe Operation: Electromagnet releases instantly upon power loss.
• Self-adjusting and pivoting armature assembly.
• Built-in spike suppression protects other solid state components within the system from damage when the door holder is de-energized.
• Heavy-duty die cast metal housings & faceplates. (2806 & 2810 - Stainless steel faceplates)

DynaLock 2802 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will one DynaLock 2802 hold both leaves of a pair of doors open?
Yes. The 2802 is the floor mount, double door model in DynaLock's 2800 Series, so a single unit serves a pair of doors from one floor-mounted electromagnet position. Holding force is 30 to 45 lbs per door, which is enough to keep self-closing fire or smoke doors open but still allows someone to pull a leaf closed by hand while the magnet is energized.
2) What voltage do I need to run to a DynaLock 2802 door holder?
Field selectable, so you do not have to decide before ordering. The 2802 runs on 12 VDC, 24 VAC/VDC, or 120 VAC/60Hz, set at install, and screw terminals are built in for field hook-up. That means one part number covers a low-voltage fire alarm circuit or a 120 VAC feed.
3) Do the doors release automatically if the building loses power or the fire alarm trips?
They do. The 2802 is fail-safe: the electromagnet drops instantly on loss of power, so the door holder releases on a fire alarm, smoke detector, or sprinkler signal, or on any power failure. It can also be released manually wherever instant closing is wanted. Built-in spike suppression protects other solid state devices on the circuit when the holder de-energizes.
4) Is the DynaLock 2800 Series UL listed for fire door hold-open use?
All 2800 Series holder models, including the 2802, are UL listed. They are intended for self-closing fire or smoke barrier doors that must stand open until an alarm or detection system releases them.
5) My wall is too far from the door for the armature to reach. What do I do?
Order the optional extension rods. DynaLock offers them for the 2800 Series to lengthen the armature projection where there is a wide standoff between the electromagnet and the armature mounting point on the door. They are sold separately from the holder.
6) Should I use a floor mount door holder or a wall mount one?
Floor mount, which is what the 2802 is, works when the wall behind the open door is glass, movable, or otherwise not a place you can anchor into, or when the door swings past any usable wall surface. A wall mount holder from the same 2800 Series is the choice where you have solid backing at armature height. The functional performance is the same either way; the mounting surface decides it.
7) Can staff still close the doors by hand while the magnetic holder is powered?
Yes. At 30 to 45 lbs of holding force per door, the 2800 Series holders are specified so a person can pull the door closed manually without cutting power to the magnet. That matters in hospitals, schools, and hotels where staff sometimes need to shut a corridor pair without tripping the alarm system.
8) Will the door holder mark up the door if it is not perfectly aligned?
Alignment tolerance is built in. Each 2800 Series assembly uses a self-adjusting, pivoting armature, so the armature seats flat against the magnet face even when the door does not stop at a perfectly square angle. All necessary mounting hardware comes with the assembly.
9) What finish does the 2802 come in, and is it durable enough for a busy corridor floor?
Satin Aluminum US28 is the standard finish on the 2802, on heavy-duty die cast metal housings and faceplates. Optional sprayed finishes are available from the factory. It is a commercial-duty product, not a residential one.
