DynaLock 2800 Series Electromagnetic Door Holders

Model 2805 Surface Wall Mount

DynaLock 2800 Series Electromagnetic Door Holders are designed to hold self-closing fire or smoke barrier doors open until automatically released by fire alarm, smoke detection, or sprinkler systems. They can also be manually controlled wherever instant closing of doors is required for safety or convenience. Each door holder assembly consists of a floor or wall mounted heavy-duty electromagnet, a selfadjusting and pivoting armature, and all necessary mounting hardware. All models are field selectable to operate on 12 VDC, 24 VAC/VDC, or 120 VAC input voltage. Convenient screw terminals are provided for field hook-up. All holder models are UL listed. Optional Extension rods are available, to extend the armature projection, for installations where a wide standoff distance between the electromagnet and armature mounting locations exist. DynaLock 2800 Door Holders each provide 30-45 lbs. of holding force, allowing manual door closure when electromagnets are energized.

Standard Features
• 30-45 Lbs. holding force per door.
• Low power consumption conserves energy, reduces operating costs and extends battery stand-by time.
• Tri-Voltage: 12 VDC, 24 VAC/VDC or 120 VAC/60Hz selectable operation.
• Fail-Safe Operation: Electromagnet releases instantly upon power loss.
• Self-adjusting and pivoting armature assembly.
• Built-in spike suppression protects other solid state components within the system from damage when the door holder is de-energized.
• Heavy-duty die cast metal housings & faceplates. (2806 & 2810 - Stainless steel faceplates)
• Satin Aluminum US28 finish is standard. Optional sprayed finishes available. -Consult Factory- (2806 & 2810 - US32D)

DynaLock 2805 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the DynaLock 2805 door holder release the door automatically if the fire alarm trips or the power drops?
That is exactly what the 2805 is built to do. The electromagnet is fail-safe, so it releases the instant power is cut, and the holder is wired to drop out on a signal from a fire alarm, smoke detection, or sprinkler system. It can also be dropped manually wherever you want doors closed on command. Because release is tied to loss of power, anything that de-energizes the circuit closes the door.
2) What voltage does the DynaLock 2805 electromagnetic door holder run on, and do I have to order a specific one?
One part number covers all three. The 2805 is field selectable for 12 VDC, 24 VAC/VDC, or 120 VAC 60Hz, so you pick the voltage at install rather than at the order form. Screw terminals are provided for field hook-up, and spike suppression is built in so de-energizing the holder does not put a transient back into the fire alarm panel or other solid state devices on the circuit.
3) Is the DynaLock 2805 a wall mount or a floor mount door holder?
Wall mount, surface applied. The 2805 magnet mounts to the wall surface, no recessing, and the armature mounts to the door face. If the geometry of your opening calls for the magnet down at the floor instead, the 2805 is the wrong model in the 2800 family for that job.
4) My wall is further back than the door swings to. Can the DynaLock 2805 still reach the door?
Optional extension rods are made for that condition. They lengthen the armature projection so the magnet on the wall and the armature on the door still meet where a wide standoff exists between the two mounting locations. The armature itself is self-adjusting and pivoting, so it takes up minor misalignment on its own, but a genuinely deep standoff needs the extension rod, which is ordered separately.
5) Will 30 to 45 pounds of holding force be enough to hold a heavy fire door open?
The 2805 holds at 30 to 45 lbs per door, which is the deliberate range for this class of holder: strong enough to keep a self-closing fire or smoke barrier door standing open against its closer, light enough that staff can pull the door free by hand while the magnet is still energized without damaging anything. If your operation depends on nobody being able to close the door manually, this is not the device for it.
6) What finish does the DynaLock 2805 come in, and how tough is the housing?
Satin aluminum, US28, is the standard finish on the 2805, over heavy-duty die cast metal housings and faceplates. Sprayed finishes are available as a factory option. Note that the stainless steel faceplate and US32D finish called out in the 2800 Series apply to the 2806 and 2810, not to the 2805, so if you are matching stainless hardware elsewhere in the building the 2805 will not match out of the box.
7) What comes in the box with the DynaLock 2805, and what do I still need to buy?
Each 2800 Series holder assembly ships as the heavy-duty electromagnet, the self-adjusting pivoting armature, and all necessary mounting hardware, so the mechanical install is covered. What is not included is the power supply and the fire alarm interface wiring, and any extension rods for a deep standoff, which are accessories sold separately.
8) Does the DynaLock 2805 draw enough power to matter on a fire alarm panel's standby battery?
Low current draw is one of the reasons this holder gets specified on alarm-powered circuits. The 2800 Series is built for low power consumption specifically to extend battery stand-by time, which is the constraint when a bank of holders is riding on a panel's secondary supply.
