Model 2806 Low-Profile Wall Mount

DynaLock 2800 Series Electromagnetic Door Holders are designed to hold self-closing fire or smoke barrier doors open until automatically released by fire alarm, smoke detection, or sprinkler systems. They can also be manually controlled wherever instant closing of doors is required for safety or convenience. Each door holder assembly consists of a floor or wall mounted heavy-duty electromagnet, a selfadjusting and pivoting armature, and all necessary mounting hardware. All models are field selectable to operate on 12 VDC, 24 VAC/VDC, or 120 VAC input voltage. Convenient screw terminals are provided for field hook-up. All holder models are UL listed. Optional Extension rods are available, to extend the armature projection, for installations where a wide standoff distance between the electromagnet and armature mounting locations exist. DynaLock 2800 Door Holders each provide 30-45 lbs. of holding force, allowing manual door closure when electromagnets are energized.

1) What does the DynaLock 2806 electromagnetic door holder actually do?
The DynaLock 2806 is a wall mounted electromagnet that holds a self-closing fire or smoke barrier door in the open position and lets it go the instant power drops. Release is triggered by a fire alarm, smoke detection or sprinkler system, or by a manual control if you want doors closing on command. The assembly comes with the heavy-duty electromagnet, a self-adjusting pivoting armature that mounts to the door, and the mounting hardware.
2) Is the 2806 door holder fail-safe, and what happens on a power outage?
Fail-safe. The 2806 electromagnet releases instantly the moment power is lost, so the door closes under its own closer during an alarm or an outage. That is the behavior code officials expect on a hold-open device for a fire or smoke barrier opening.
3) What voltage does the DynaLock 2806 run on, and do I have to order a specific one?
One part covers all three. The 2806 is field selectable for 12 VDC, 24 VAC/VDC or 120 VAC 60Hz, so you set it at install instead of specifying voltage on the order. Field wiring lands on built-in screw terminals.
4) How much holding force does the 2806 have, and can someone still push the door closed?
Each 2800 Series holder provides 30 to 45 lbs of holding force per door. That is deliberately low enough that a person can pull the door free by hand while the magnet is still energized, without damaging anything, but strong enough to keep a normal self-closing door parked open.
5) My door does not swing back far enough to touch the magnet. What do I need?
Optional extension rods are available for the 2800 Series to lengthen the armature projection where there is a wide standoff between the wall-mounted magnet and the armature location on the door. They are ordered separately from the holder.
6) Is the 2806 listed, and is it built for heavy commercial traffic?
All 2800 Series holder models are UL listed, and the 2806 is a commercial, heavy-duty device. The housing is die cast metal and the 2806 uses a stainless steel faceplate rather than the die cast faceplate on the lower models.
7) Should I use a wall mount door holder like the 2806 or a floor mount?
The 2806 is the wall mounted, low-profile version. Pick wall mount when the door swings back close to a wall and you can land the magnet at door-height on that wall, which keeps the magnet out of the walking path and off the floor where mops and carts hit it. Floor mount models in the 2800 Series are the choice when the door swings out into open space with no wall behind it. Either way the armature mounts on the door face.
8) Will the 2806 door holder line up if the door and wall are slightly out of alignment?
The armature on the 2800 Series is self-adjusting and pivoting, so it seats flat against the magnet face even when the door does not arrive perfectly square to the wall. That tolerance is what keeps the full holding force instead of a partial contact hold.
9) What finish does the DynaLock 2806 come in, and will it match my other US26D hardware?
The 2806 ships in US32D satin stainless, not the US28 satin aluminum that is standard on the rest of the 2800 Series. US32D reads as a brushed stainless and sits alongside US26D satin chrome lever and closer hardware without looking out of place. Other sprayed finishes are a factory-consult item.
10) Will the 2806 damage my fire alarm panel or access control board when it releases?
Built-in spike suppression is included on the 2800 Series holders. When the magnet de-energizes, the inductive kick is clamped at the device, which protects the solid state components on whatever panel or relay board is switching it. No external diode or MOV needed at the holder.
11) How many door holders can I put on one power supply? Does the 2806 draw much current?
The 2800 Series holders are low power consumption devices. That matters two ways on a job: it keeps more holders on a single supply, and it stretches battery stand-by time on the fire alarm or access control power supply that has to carry them through an outage.
