DynaLock 2800 Series Electromagnetic Door Holders

Model 2810 Surface Wall Mount, 400 Lb. Holding Force

DynaLock 2800 Series Electromagnetic Door Holders are designed to hold self-closing fire or smoke barrier doors open until automatically released by fire alarm, smoke detection, or sprinkler systems. They can also be manually controlled wherever instant closing of doors is required for safety or convenience. Each door holder assembly consists of a floor or wall mounted heavy-duty electromagnet, a selfadjusting and pivoting armature, and all necessary mounting hardware. All models are field selectable to operate on 12 VDC, 24 VAC/VDC, or 120 VAC input voltage. Convenient screw terminals are provided for field hook-up. All holder models are UL listed. Optional Extension rods are available, to extend the armature projection, for installations where a wide standoff distance between the electromagnet and armature mounting locations exist. DynaLock 2800 Door Holders each provide 30-45 lbs. of holding force, allowing manual door closure when electromagnets are energized.

Standard Features
• 30-45 Lbs. holding force per door.
• Low power consumption conserves energy, reduces operating costs and extends battery stand-by time.
• Tri-Voltage: 12 VDC, 24 VAC/VDC or 120 VAC/60Hz selectable operation.
• Fail-Safe Operation: Electromagnet releases instantly upon power loss.
• Self-adjusting and pivoting armature assembly.
• Built-in spike suppression protects other solid state components within the system from damage when the door holder is de-energized.
• Heavy-duty die cast metal housings & faceplates. (2806 & 2810 - Stainless steel faceplates)
• Satin Aluminum US28 finish is standard. Optional sprayed finishes available. -Consult Factory- (2806 & 2810 - US32D)
• Lifetime Warranty: Made in the USA by DynaLock, with over 20 years experience in the manufacture of electronic security & access control products.

DynaLock 2800 DYN – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the DynaLock 2810 door holder actually do on a fire or smoke barrier door?
The 2810 is an electromagnetic door holder. It keeps a self-closing fire or smoke barrier door standing open during normal use, then drops it the instant the fire alarm, smoke detection or sprinkler system cuts power to the magnet. It can also be released manually wherever you want doors to close on demand. It does not latch or lock the door, it only holds it open.
2) Is the DynaLock 2810 a wall mount or a floor mount door holder?
Wall mount, surface applied. The electromagnet mounts to the wall and the pivoting armature goes on the door. If your standoff distance between the wall and the door face is large, DynaLock offers optional extension rods that lengthen the armature projection. If the geometry of the opening calls for the magnet down at floor level instead, you need a floor mount model from the 2800 Series rather than the 2810.
3) Do I have to order the DynaLock 2810 for a specific voltage?
No. The 2810 is field selectable for 12 VDC, 24 VAC/VDC or 120 VAC 60Hz, so one part number covers all three. You set it at install using the built in screw terminals, which also means you are not landing wire nuts on flying leads. That tri-voltage capability is why this holder drops onto both a low voltage fire alarm circuit and a 120 VAC feed without a separate part.
4) Does the DynaLock 2810 release the door when the power goes out?
Yes, it is fail-safe. Cut power for any reason, alarm, outage or a tripped breaker, and the electromagnet lets go immediately so the door closer can shut the opening. That is the required behavior for a hold-open on a fire or smoke barrier. There is no fail-secure version of this function, a holder that kept the door open on power loss would defeat the purpose.
5) Is the DynaLock 2810 UL listed?
Yes. All DynaLock 2800 Series holder models are UL listed, which is what an inspector will want to see on a hold-open serving a fire or smoke barrier door assembly.
6) My wall is set well back from the door, will a surface wall mount holder like the DynaLock 2810 still reach?
Not on its own if the gap is wide. The 2810 mounts flat to the wall surface and the armature projects from the door, so the two have to meet. DynaLock makes optional extension rods that lengthen the armature projection specifically for installations with a wide standoff between the electromagnet location and the armature location. Measure the standoff from the finished wall to the door face at the hold-open position before you order, then add the rod if the geometry needs it.
7) What comes with the DynaLock 2810 and what else do I need to buy?
Each 2800 Series door holder assembly ships as the heavy-duty electromagnet, the self-adjusting pivoting armature, and the mounting hardware needed to install both halves. Accessories, including the optional extension rods for wide standoff installations, are sold separately. You still need the releasing circuit from your fire alarm panel or detection device, plus a door closer on the door.
8) What finish is the DynaLock 2810 and will it match other hardware in the corridor?
The 2810 carries a US32D satin stainless faceplate rather than the US28 satin aluminum that is standard across the rest of the 2800 Series, and the 2810 and 2806 use stainless steel faceplates over die cast metal housings. US32D is the usual commercial finish on levers, exit devices and push plates, so in most institutional corridors the 2810 matches what is already on the openings. Sprayed finishes are a factory option.
9) Can staff still push a door closed while the DynaLock 2810 is energized, or does it have to be released electrically first?
You can pull it free by hand. The 2800 Series holders are built so a person can close the door manually while the magnet is still energized, without damaging the holder or the armature. That matters in a hospital or school corridor where staff routinely shut a door without going near the alarm system.
10) Will the DynaLock 2810 damage the access control or alarm electronics when it drops out?
Spike suppression is built into the holder. When the magnet de-energizes, the collapsing field is clamped inside the unit so the inductive kick does not travel back into the fire alarm relay or other solid state components on the circuit. You do not need to add an external suppression diode across the coil.
11) Is the DynaLock 2810 rated for a commercial building or is it a residential-grade holder?
Commercial, heavy duty. The housing is die cast metal with a stainless faceplate, and the 2800 Series is intended for institutional and commercial openings such as healthcare corridors, schools and multi-family common areas. It is not a residential item.
12) Does the DynaLock 2810 need much power to hold a door open all day?
Low current draw is one of the design points of the 2800 Series, which keeps operating cost down and, more importantly for a life safety circuit, extends how long the fire alarm panel's standby batteries can carry the holders during a power failure. If you are sizing a panel for a corridor full of hold-opens, that is the number to ask for when you spec the circuit.
