B-LINE 4D21-240YZN – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is yellow zinc chromate strut channel okay for outdoor or wet locations?
Yellow zinc chromate on steel is an indoor, dry-location finish. It gives light corrosion protection for interior mechanical and electrical support work, but for exterior runs, parking structures, or wash-down areas you want hot dip galvanized or stainless strut instead. The 4D21-240YZN is steel with a yellow zinc chromate coating.
2) What is the difference between 4D21 channel and standard 1-5/8 by 1-5/8 strut?
4D21 is a shallower profile: 2.12 inches across the face by 1.06 inches deep, in 18 gauge. Standard strut is 1-5/8 by 1-5/8 and usually a heavier gauge, so it carries more load and takes deeper fittings. Use the 4D21 where you need a low-profile channel for lighter conduit, cable tray, and equipment support and headroom is tight.
3) What is the exact part number to order for the 20 foot yellow zinc 4D21 strut?
Order Eaton B-Line part number 4D21-240YZN. The number reads out as the 4D21 channel profile, 240 inch length, yellow zinc finish, which is how B-Line codes the rest of the 4Dimension line too.
